We were lucky to catch up with Sarah Rucker recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Sarah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
Full Gallop works as a business name for my event production services because it’s the approach I take to any project, however there is a longer story involved in my choosing this name. Most of my family members are/were either artists or teachers and very empathic and emotional souls. It was said that my great-grandfather could see art in anything to the point that a horse in full gallop would bring him to tears. I chose this name to honor my family who has alway supported my artistic career endeavors.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers?
I’ve been a lifelong arts lover and advocate and now have over 17 years of experience in arts research, programming and presenting. I founded Full Gallop in 2015 and with it I strive to bridge cultures and connect communities through creative collaborations and programs. I have a personal mission to help increase equity in the arts, especially in Austin, where I started the Inclusion Riders Initiative ATX in 2018. I was a founding board member of Austin Emerging Arts Leaders and hold a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts and a Business Certificate from the University of Texas.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
In 2014 I left an organization where I’d been producing most of the events for nearly 8 years and took a part time job to start a new chapter in my career. It was in this time of transition I started freelancing. Though I ended up accepting full time with the job, I kept event production as my side hustle, forming Full Gallop officially in January 2015. In 2018, that company disbanded and I took the scary leap in deciding to give my business a shot. Thanks to a supportive community and great clients, it’s grown every year since – including hanging on during these last two Covid-19 years.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
My clients are the best source of new clients! I’ve had so many great references from current and past clients and even those who I was unable to collaborate with recommending my services to others.
