We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sarah Richardson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sarah, appreciate you joining us today. We love heartwarming stories – do you have a heartwarming story from your career to share?
Growing up as a gymnast, I always had a strong understanding of my body and a deep connection to how it moved and functioned. Staying in good shape was a priority for me, not only to improve my performance but also to prevent injury. My mom played a huge role in this, supporting me every step of the way, and was always educating me on physical health. When I suffered injuries or strained muscles during practice, she introduced me to massage therapy. Over time, I came to appreciate how much massage helped me, especially when I faced a serious injury to my back in 2020.
During high school, I began massaging my friends and anyone I saw in need of relief. This sparked my curiosity, and I started learning more about anatomy and how the human body worked. I was fascinated by how the body could heal and perform, and I knew this was something I wanted to pursue further.
When I enrolled in massage school, I didn’t expect it to be so captivating to me. I was surprised to discover that massage therapy offered much more than just relaxation and reducing muscle tension. The depth of knowledge about anatomy and the wide range of benefits for the body completely exceeded my expectations.
While I was finishing my training, my mom had knee surgery and faced a difficult recovery. The skills I learned in school became invaluable as I helped her through her healing process. It was incredibly fulfilling to be able to give back to her after all the years she’d supported me, from massages during my gymnastics career to simply being there when I needed her most. I had the opportunity to repay her in a way that was both meaningful and healing.
Massage therapy has been so much more than just a career for me. It’s been a way to give back to the people I love and help them in the same way I’ve been helped. It’s a gift I didn’t realize I’d be able to offer, but I am so happy to be able to offer and educate people on its benefits.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Having a solid marketing plan in place is one of the most crucial factors in my opinon. While excellent skills and expertise are the foundation of any business, being able to effectively reach and communicate with the community and your ideal audience will help your business thrive.
The level of discipline and consistency when sticking to your Marketing Plan can easily decide weather your business will grow or plummet. A well thought out marketing plan ensures that you’re visible in a competitive market and that your services resonate with your target audience. It helps to establish your brand identity, which is key for building trust and loyalty with clients. Whether it’s social media, content marketing, email campaigns, or referral programs—you’re able to highlight the value you bring and demonstrate how your expertise address the needs of your clients.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Our referral program has been incredibly powerful because it taps into the trust and relationships that our existing clients already have. People are more likely to try a new service if it’s recommended by someone they trust. By offering incentives for both the person referring and the new client. When the program benefits both people it helps motivate our current clients to spread the word about our services.
On the other hand, social media has been invaluable in helping connect with a larger audience. Platforms like Instagram and TikTok allow us to showcase our expertise, share client testimonials, post educational content, and build a community around our brand. Social media gives us the ability to reach people we wouldn’t have otherwise. I think Social Media should be a big part of any Marketing Plan.
Together, the referral program and social media presence have proven to be the most effective and consistent strategies for growing our clientele.
