Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sarah Rayburn. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sarah, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later?
If I could go back in time I would absolutely start my business sooner!! I talked myself out of pursuing photography professionally so many times over the years. I was convinced I wouldn’t be successful, or wouldn’t be able to create and maintain a work/life balance etc. I made up every excuse possible to support my imposter syndrome and regret how much time I wasted.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I strive to collect the quiet moments, emotional connection and the minute details of the many seasons of life my clients are in. I’m wildly passionate about documenting people in a way that authentically portrays all of the unique and diverse intricacies of who they are in the most beautiful, candid manner possible.
When you work with me, you get an unofficial “hype girl” for life!! My favorite part of photography is being able to empower people to see themselves as the rest of the world sees them.
I took the leap of faith to start my business solely off of the confidence built up by amazingly supportive earliest clients. They embody what I hope to give every single client I photograph — that we are all radiant in ways we’d never notice without someone else showing it to us.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a photographer is undoubtedly the connections and relationships I build with my clients! Clients who refer me to family and friends, clients who become friends, clients who trust me to photograph their most important seasons of life — it all comes back to building long-lasting client relationships.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Growing my clientele has been completely organic, and I’m incredibly humbled to have so many repeat clients. The majority of my new clients are referrals from my existing clientele, or through word of mouth. Engaging with followers on social media platforms, as well as being responsive to messages and emails has also been extremely beneficial.
