We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sarah Peavler. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sarah below.
Sarah, appreciate you joining us today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
In 2021, I was working at a dining establishment, as a bartender and server as I had for twelve years. It was a job, but I knew I was meant for better things. (I have known since I was eight years old.) Anyway, I started serving a group of businesspeople, realtors, and real estate investors. This is where I met my mentor, boss, and friend. He offered me a job in property management/personal assistant, that came with a mentorship in business and real estate, if I was open to it. (Now knowledgeable in business, real estate investing, and have passed my test to be a Missouri licensed realtor) (License is on inactive status) Meanwhile, in my transition in jobs, I was asked to bartend a few weddings, and I really enjoyed it. My mentor and I decided to arrange a meeting with a wedding planner in Joplin, to see if there was a need to for this type of business. The answer was yes!
From there, I decided to get an LLC, a square, business social media platforms, a google business page, and general and liquor liability insurance. I then started advertising my heart out, telling everyone I could tell, attending wedding expos, networking events, and most importantly contacting venues! There is power in showing up! I made it a personal goal to do at least one thing a day that would further The Social Sip. If I could do more, I did. I definitely did!
“I” has turned into we, and we are at one hundred and nine events, since 2021. We have been fortunate enough to pour regularly for heavy hitters such as, Harley Davidson Motorcycles and Grey Eagle Distributors.
My experience in hospitality, and the large network of hospitality works that I have built over the years, has made it a little easier to scale and be successful. I think the lesson here, is to just get started. It doesn’t have to be perfect. This goes for any idea, goal, or dream.
In closing, I think the lesson here, is to just get started. It doesn’t have to be perfect. This goes for any idea, goal, or dream. It is a priceless feeling to provide a solution for our clients on their special day, and in turn providing opportunities for my staff of bartenders, and myself.
Sarah, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I think I may have answered most of this in the previous question. However, I believe what sets us apart, is the amount of knowledge and experience we have combined, our do whatever it takes attitude, and a price point that makes our service affordable and obtainable. We have performed events with the capacity of ten people to three hundred. We work within all walks of life, and budgets.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
In the very beginning, I made it a goal to post every day on about the business on business or personal social media platforms. I used to have the saying that everything is content, but now that we are able to obtain more quality content, with business growth, I get to be more selective of what I put out there.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Venue referral, building relationships with venue owners and wedding vendors, and open houses at venues. I believe business is largely based on relationship and networking. You can get a service needed almost anywhere, but you will be drawn to the one that is the most familiar and makes you feel most comfortable. Also, google business and SEO has been very effective in procuring clients.
