We were lucky to catch up with Sarah Pachtman Shetty recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sarah, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
My mother was a general Obstetrician Gynecologist in Arizona in the 1980-1990s. While other kids had their moms at every event, dance recital, soccer practice, or school holiday, my mom couldn’t attend as regularly because of her rigorous career schedule. Instead of feeling bad about it, she focused on the good with me and shared stories of the babies that she delivered and the women she was helping. And she made sure to spend plenty of time with me in other ways, like reading stories at night, talking about my friends and family with me, and taking me to special activities whenever she could. She passed away from complications of breast cancer when I was 17 years old. Now, I am continuing her life’s work as a Maternal Fetal Medicine physician and raising my 2.5 year old son with the same philosophy that she raised me.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist, Obstetrician and digital creator. I work in New York providing high-risk pregnancy care and delivering babies. I also spend time empowering women who are trying to conceive, pregnant, or postpartum through my Instagram profile @healthymamadoc.
How’d you meet your business partner?
My partner interviewed me for Fellowship! She had a scratchy voice after attending a sports game the night before.I ultimately matched in a different institution but we reconnected years later and have the best relationship.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I think being genuine and consistently providing evidence-based recommendations helped me build a solid reputation in my market more than anything else.
