We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sarah Nicole. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sarah Nicole below.
Sarah Nicole, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear the story of how you went from this being just an idea to making it into something real.
Starting was the most difficult part for me. I knew I wanted to create travel content, and people had been telling me for awhile that I should try it. However, I guess, being afraid of failure held me back for awhile.
Once I decided to just do it and see what happened, I had to come up with a username/name for my brand. I brainstormed for weeks but nothing stuck. Eventually, I came up with My Macroscopic Life. My day job is a chemist, and macroscopic means “as seen by the naked eye” so I thought that was perfect! It’s also pretty unique I think, and can set my content out from others.
After I created my channels with my username I started researching the best ways to start creating travel content. Within the next month, I began posting as much as I could about my travels. It took off really well in the beginning, but then engagement and views seemed to fall. So, I went back to researching how to get it back up.
After about 6 months, I realized that I was lacking in the personality department. The actual content was great, but my personality wasn’t shining through. I’m an introverted person, so putting myself in front of the camera was very difficult. But, once I was able to work through and move past that, my engagement went up again. I realized that while my actual content was very informative, people want to see you talking about it and hear the excitement in your voice.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I have always had a deep love for travel. As a child, my family took me places and as I got older I fell in love with the planning process as well.
I know not everyone likes the planning process. So, I share my trip itineraries, travel tips to places I’ve been, attractions that should be avoided and those that you shouldn’t miss, and answer peoples questions. In addition, I share my reviews of restaurants, hotels, and Airbnb’s.
I also help people plan their own trips. I welcome people to message and email me. I simply enjoy helping others plan so they’re not stressed out when they should be having fun!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I started posting my own travels to see what people seemed to like. While some of my videos have went viral, many have not. It may sound cliche, but consistency is key. It’s easy to get down on yourself when you aren’t seeing results. But, keep pushing through! Results will come, it just takes time.
I’ve noticed people respond better and I grow more when I’m answering their travel questions. I believe since it’s a place they already plan to go, and not just a “dream” for them.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I want to be able to create travel content full time. I’m currently working on building a website, hopefully it will be ready in early 2023.
Honestly, I want to help as many people as I can. Travel is so good for your mental well-being. A lot of people think you have to go somewhere far from your home for it to be considered a trip or vacation, however, that’s just simply not true.
I want to take the stress off of people, and help plan their trips for them. Maybe even offer places they wouldn’t have thought about going to.
