We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sarah Moore. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sarah below.
Sarah, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I believe anytime you venture out on a new project you are presenting to others or a business like I have you are taking a risk. I chose to start my business out of passion and purpose. I didn’t start with capital or money, so each month was a deep breath and sometimes still is. Having a wellness business where your services aren’t covered by insurance brings a different level of trust from your clients. I also extremely value that they choose to invest their money and time with me. I love what I do but you are always on growing a business.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into health and wellness out of a deep desire to understand my own body, and be in a preventative state with my health. I was young I had no pre-existing conditions that I knew of but I also didn’t want to wait until something came up for me to try to get healthy, so it continued to evolve. I started with a holistic approach, changing my food to organic Getting colonics, drinking more water, not using a microwave, various things played into it. This transitioned me into a business of giving colonics. I continued it in my personal life with having home births and breast-feeding. Those type of things over the years it is involved into a holistic nutrition practice that I went back to school, and I have a practice where i combine the colonics services along with the nutrition, and then we cover a lot of mental wellness and emotional things that go along with your health so we approach the body from a full perspective not just food. Some clients just come into the office for colonics some clients come into the office for a combination of colonics and our nutrition meetings. Others are just nutrition and I’m working with them remotely. That could involve me getting food for them while they’re out on the road, making sure their hotel room is stocked when they are out of town. the list goes on and on. My goal is to empower my clients with enough knowledge and understanding about their body and the holistic way to take care of it that when we’re done working, they at least have the confidence to begin making their own choices and know how to operate when things don’t go as planned. life is always happening and we have to be ready to adapt and not just say well, Things got bad I fell off the wagon, And we will at times, but least you’ll know how to get back on.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Resilience, isn’t really something you want to brag about. It typically means things have not gone as planned, so you had to be resilient to get through. I started this business right after my 15 year old was born. I was married and his business partner had embezzled money from us. It was a shock of course. We had a rental property and “owned” the home we were living in that I had both of the kids in. I was helping his business with a new born and needed to find a way to help. I was already trained in colonics and began to offer them out of our home. Things didn’t get better business wise on his part, and we lost everything eventually. By that time i had my office inside an MDs office and shortly after my son was born I went back to school for nutrition. I then added that to my practice. When the kids were of age I homeschooled them while growing the business. Now my practice continues to grow located in Nashville. The resilience came with a lot of “lose” along the way and major life changes but the kids and I stayed strong.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
It being your passion and your purpose. Theres a lot of things I like and have an interest in, but they are not meant to be my business or day to day profession. After that it is staying consistent.
