Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sarah Meyers. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Sarah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you share an important lesson you learned in a prior job that’s helped you in your career afterwards?
Becoming a consultant in 2019 was a game-changer for me in my professional journey. I dove headfirst into a number of different situations, where I had to be the go-to problem solver. It truly shaped my career and gave me the belief that I can tackle any challenge that comes my way.
I learned a valuable lesson along the way – I discovered that expertise is not a prerequisite for success. I realized that I can take on any challenge and soak up new knowledge, even if I’m not an expert in the field. It’s all about having the right mindset and the determination to figure things out.
Helping people solve problems brings me immense joy and fulfillment. There’s nothing quite like the satisfaction of finding solutions and making a positive impact. It’s what keeps me motivated and hungry for more.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
What I’m truly proud of are the risks I’ve taken throughout my career. I’ve consistently challenged myself and ventured beyond my comfort zone, eagerly embracing new opportunities for personal and professional growth. These experiences have shaped me in ways I never imagined, and I’m genuinely grateful for the invaluable lessons they’ve taught me along the way.
My career path hasn’t followed a linear trajectory, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Exploring new avenues and acquiring knowledge outside of my immediate scope has been instrumental in my growth and has allowed me to discover new passions.
When I reflect on my journey so far, I attribute much of my success to the amazing individuals I’ve had the privilege of encountering. These remarkable people took a chance on me, believed in my abilities, and provided unwavering support. Their guidance and mentorship have been invaluable, and I’m humbled by their belief in me.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Throughout my journey, I’ve had to confront and unlearn the belief that I must be an expert before attempting something new. It can be very uncomfortable to step into the unknown without all the answers, but through this process, I’ve discovered that I am capable of achieving more than I thought I could. It’s a realization that has been reinforced by giving myself the time, putting in the effort, and embracing a mindset of grace and self-compassion.
It’s not uncommon for many of us to doubt ourselves and our abilities. I hear it all the time, and it resonates deeply with me. That’s why I love sharing a simple yet powerful message with others: “Don’t put yourself in a box. You possess more knowledge and capability than you give yourself credit for.” It’s a reminder that we are often capable of far more than we initially believe.
Even as I encourage others with this message, I still find myself needing to remind myself of it. It’s an ongoing journey of self-discovery and self-belief.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
One significant turning point in my career occurred when I made the decision to leave a comfortable job in pursuit of what appeared to be the perfect opportunity. However, it didn’t take long for me to realize that I deeply missed the positive culture and the strong relationships I had cultivated in my previous workplace. I came to truly appreciate the profound impact that strong leadership has on creating a positive work environment. Leaders who inspire, empower, and foster a culture of trust and collaboration can significantly contribute to the success and satisfaction of their team members. I was fortunate enough to have maintained positive connections, that allowed me to return to my previous company.
This experience has fundamentally shaped my perspective and reinforced my understanding that a positive work environment, characterized by a supportive culture, meaningful relationships, mentorship, and exceptional leadership, are all essential elements for personal and professional fulfillment. It is through these elements that we find the inspiration and drive to reach our full potential and make a meaningful impact in our professional lives.
