We recently connected with Sarah Louise Rector and have shared our conversation below.
Sarah Louise, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you get your first job in the field that you practice in today?
I had just ended up moving to Los Angeles from London, which was all very unplanned. I had such a passion and enjoyment of going to group fitness classes and spent most of my early day’s in LA doing just that! I knew I loved a class environment as it felt like I was back in my dancer/performer days…. A good friend had mentioned that she had driven passed a new boutique fitness studio that was going to be opening. I researched the style of the workouts that the studio was based a round and I emailed the founder of the studio explaining my dance and fitness background and what I would bring to the classes. I knew it was exactly what I was looking for to start my fitness trainer career and I am so thrilled I took this step otherwise I wouldn’t be where I am today.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My love for fitness and movement runs deep within me. It’s not just a passion; it’s a way of life that has shaped my journey and fueled my desire to transform lives. As a dedicated fitness professional, I have the privilege of helping others discover the power of physical activity and its profound impact on overall wellbeing making fitness a lifestyle not a chore!
My true fulfillment lies in sharing my expertise with others, particularly through private training sessions. I pride myself on being attentive, compassionate, and dedicated to their success. By forging strong connections and instilling confidence, I help my clients break through barriers, surpass their own expectations, and uncover their extraordinary capabilities. In addition to private training, I have embraced the digital era of fitness through my groundbreaking fitness app, “The SLR Life.” This app represents my commitment to making fitness accessible to all. It brings the transformative power of sculpt pilates, heart-pumping cardio, dynamic dance aerobics, and revitalizing stretching routines right to the palm of your hand. With comprehensive workout plans, step-by-step instructions, and a constant stream of motivation, “The SLR Life” allows users to experience the benefits of my expertise from the comfort of their own homes.
I am someone that always likes to encourage a balanced lifestyle. My social media is there to encourage others to move regularly, eat nutritious food but always remember its ok to eat the pizza…lol! I’m all about the tips and tricks of how to make things easy for you, functional and fun.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
No I’m extremely grateful for where I’m at and what I provide. I feel very lucky that the main part of my job is to workout! Some of my private clients need to be encouraged more when I train them so I get to workout with them, so it really does give me those “pinch me moments” that this is my career.
With the world of online fitness this is where the creativity in me gets put into good use. I am very hands on with The SLR Life, I do all of the filming, editing, newsletters, social media etc… which I find all thoroughly enjoyable, it’s safe to say I wear a lot of hats!!!

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
This would be teaching group fitness classes at a boutique fitness studio called ModelFit and producing and creating fitness courses for an online platform called DailyOM. Both brands have a great following and great recognition which I’m super proud to be connected with, and just overall being consistent with social media and keep pumping out workouts on The SLR Life app!
I always like to keep building and creating so when I launched my podcast Balancing more than just weights this created another avenue of exposure still within the health and wellness space as I wanted to make sure I have guests on the show that like to share their relationship with fitness and how they live their best balanced lifestyles. I’m super lucky to have interviewed all of the amazing guests as they also bring great insights and knowledge as well as their fans too.
