Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sarah Lambert. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Sarah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
Everyday I thank the previous version of myself for doing what she needed to do to create this life and business for herself. As a mom of 2 who build her business on maternity leave in 2019, I couldn’t imagine having to work corporate hours. Being gone 12 hours a day would mean I barely saw my kids, and that wasn’t something I wanted. I’ve never wished I could work a regular job because even when things are hard in entrepreneurship, I know that I am doing this for my family and my bigger mission and it makes every hard day worth it.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My business kind of started by accident. I had never planned on being a business coach, but after scaling my photography business from a 30k side hustle to a 6-figure online business in 2019 while on maternity leave, so many other business owners started asking me how I did it. I started coaching and mentoring other service based businesses into scaling online, and I haven’t stopped since.
I help my clients grow standout brands on Instagram, create transformational programs that change the world all while becoming their best most powerful selves.
I do this by working with strategy, mindset and energetics because all 3 are important when it comes to achieving greatness.
I have 1:1 coaching, masterminds, group mentorship programs, courses and free masterclasses and as a Manifesting Generator and enneagram 7, I’m always creating new offers and programs to support my community.
What’s different about me and my approach is that myself and my community aren’t just in it for the freedom and wealth. We have a deep desire to serve and make massive impact in the world. We are always coming back to our mission and how we can grow into the leaders and icons we were born to be.
It’s an extension of our heart and soul and we treat it that way. And this is what I’m most proud of, the women I’ve gotten to help, the lives I’ve changed, and the ripple effect that has had on the lives those clients have touched.
I’m also so proud that I’ve been able to scale to 400k years while raising two babies, not having to choose success and the motherhood I desire. I want all women to know they too can have it all.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I started sharing my life on social media consistently before I even had a business and it’s how my first business started. I was sharing photos and that I was taking photography lessons and people started asking me if they could hire me. I’ve continued to share my journey openly and authentically and it’s not only built my community but it’s followed the evolution of my business.
As I’ve grown and evolved, I’ve always used the same account. Some of the same people who hired me to take their photos, later took my photography course, later hired me to help them grow a business etc etc.
It’s incredible what’s possible when you build true connections and community online. People grow with you and they share you with their family and friends.
My growth has been 100% organic, it’s happened slow and steady and even with less than 8k followers I’ve had over 1 million in revenue since 2019 while working part time.
My advice for anyone just starting to build is to focus less on the vanity metrics and more on the people who are already there. You may think you know who will or won’t hire you, but you truly don’t.
Keep showing up, sharing openly and honestly, take people on the journey with you and they’ll follow.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
As I mentioned before, my photography business started by accident when people started asking if they could hire me and I threw together a website.
I was working in corporate at that time so was doing it on the side. When I got pregnant in 2017 I knew I’d love to be able to go all in on my own business but didn’t know how a family photography business could replace a bank income.
While on maternity leave, I decided to create an online course “beginner photography for moms” and I launched it and made 6-figures my first year. I was able to quit my corporate job and work for myself.
That business evolved into mentorship and coaching and has gone from that 30k/year side hustle to a 400/year coaching business because I got online, started helping people solve their problems and creating transformational programs.
