We were lucky to catch up with Sarah Hillmer recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sarah , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think it takes to be successful?
Success is not a one-size fits all model. Success can take on many forms – but work ethic, openness, curiosity and good old-fashioned determination are skills that are essential to carving out a successful, fulfilling path.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My whole life has been steeped in the dance world; from my early years as a professional dancer, to my work as a ballet master, stager, assistant to choreographers, educator and creator. Living in this world, I wanted to impact lives in a tangible, lasting way. I love watching emerging artists find their footing, make new discoveries, and challenge their notion of what’s possible. I had a strong desire to create a program that would help nurture the skill sets these emerging artists need to thrive in the arts world as dancers, creators and leaders.
And so ImmerseATL was formed in 2017.
ImmerseATL is a training and mentorship program that serves contemporary dancers who are roughly ages 17-23. The yearlong mentorship program offers rigorous training, brings the emerging artists into close contact with leaders in the Atlanta and national arts scene, provides performing opportunities, and immerses them in what it means to live life as a professional artist.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I think most small business owners will say “everyday illustrates my resilience”. Some days are exhilarating, some days are crushing, many days are full of hard work and no end insight – but there is always a spark along the way, rarely anticipated, rarely predicted, and not always big, that keeps you going, that keeps you saying, “yes, I can do today, and I believe in tomorrow” – and this dear small business owners is our story of resilience.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
See what someone is capable of and show them trust along the way to them achieving it. Listen, encourage, correct when needed and be willing to trust people to fail, make mistakes and find their way.
