We were lucky to catch up with Sarah Harrison recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sarah, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
For my children, my prayer is that they remember me as loving. That they saw that I valued every person, and in turn that they themselves value and cherish every person. As for my business, I want people to say, “She made sure every mom had an opportunity to tell their story; that every mother was known, seen, and loved.”

Sarah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a motherhood and family photographer! I started photography in 2020 (great year, right?), and fell in love with documenting the different seasons of motherhood. While being a mother myself, there is something that is just beautiful and raw about shooting motherhood. I love being able to watch bellies and families grow!
I very much become invested in each of my client’s stories. In the least cheesy way possible, when you work with me, you become part of my family. To me, taking pictures is more than just taking pictures. I take the time to meet you where you are physically and mentally. That looks like seeing if my first time moms have any questions about pregnancy or birth or just being a parent. During newborn pictures, that looks like me checking in on your mental health and watching for signs of postpartum depression. During documentary or motherhood sessions, that looks like celebrating with you about your child’s report card or praying with you about a family member.
At the end of the day, I want each of my clients to know that known, seen, and loved; that someone cares for them, beyond just taking pictures.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Oh this is a good one. I don’t actually get to see this often, but the most rewarding thing is when a client has pictures I’ve taken up on the walls of their home. Facebook profile changes are nice, but knowing that something I made has a semi-permanent/permanent space in their home is the best feeling.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
From what close clients and friends have told me, simply being myself has been the foundation of my reputation. I am transparent with my process and investment and I take the time to clarify anything and answer questions. On top of that, I do my best to not put on a “professional” persona. I say that in quotes because I am professional and respectful, but I also take the time to relate to and learn about my clients. TL;DR: I don’t treat my clients like a number in my bank account.
