We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sarah Hall. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sarah below.
Sarah, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
I always say looking back that my biggest regret was not starting my business sooner. However, I do feel like God puts us on the path that we need to be on at that every moment in time so while I do wish I had started sooner, I know that it’s all in God‘s timing.
I started dabbling in business around 2013. I just started thinking about ways to make more money and started really small – doing some little side make up gigs. I was a self-taught make up artist, but working in the clinical world as a registered dietitian. Quite the shift huh? Lol
Over the years, I had gained interest in the beauty world and started teaching myself how to do freelance make up from YouTube videos. Very interesting story considering I grew up an athlete and a tomboy and never wore make up until I was 18.
I explored YouTube, Facebook videos, and the make up industry for a couple years and then decided to go back to my roots of being in the nutrition & healthcare field and helping women live a better quality life, and since there weren’t many other registered dietitians or online nutrition coaches at the time, I consider myself a trailblazer in that space.
Around 2018, women started ask me about marketing and sales but I never really considered myself as someone that could teach business. However, I did always see myself as a leader and was always in leadership roles in my clinical career, in my friend circles, even as an athlete growing up, etc. I was always leading people and I thought why not take the risk and make the leap, so took my first business mentoring client. She practically begged me to work with her, she became a 6 figure online earner and the rest is history! I’ve been full-time mentoring ever since and really feel like I’m walking out Gods calling for my life.
I can honestly say starting sooner, I might not have been ready, maturity wise, and waiting even later would’ve postponed my dream life and the dream life I wanted for my children. What I have accomplished over the last almost decade is some thing that I only daydreamed about a few years ago. It’s kind of nice to look at it all play out backwards because when you’re in the moment thinking about starting, you don’t really know what the future holds and it can be scary and I find that fear is what often holds people back.
Sarah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi, I’m Sarah, I am a former clinical dietitian who specialized in healthcare, and now I am a business, money and mindset mentor, with almost a decade of coaching experience.
I help online entrepreneurs build six and seven figure profitable businesses using genuine, organic social media & sales methods. No gimmicks no spam no inauthentic tactics or strategies.
The biggest problems I solve is helping female entrepreneurs make the shift from scared to focused and confident. Whether someone’s looking to launch, grow or scale a business, I have a level of programming for them that’s built specifically to jumpstart or to fast track where they’re at to create the shift they need to get to the ultimate dream life they desire.
Something that sets me apart is the fact that I take a very personalized approach with my clients. I know my clients, I know their husbands or partners name, I know their children’s names, I know their biggest desires and their biggest fears. I can look at them on a zoom and know exactly where they’re at and what they’re thinking, because I truly spend time to get to know them. Being a mentor is not just a job for me. It’s something that I truly feel like I was called to do, and that God has shown me a path for.
Something I’m most proud of is the life and generational wealth I have created for my family and two children. When I started my business they were three and eight and they’re 11 and 16 now and it’s crazy how time flies and the biggest thing I desire is that I am leading by example for my kids to know they can live an extraordinary life and for other women to know they can do the same.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I literally built my audience on social media organically-no paid ads, no funnels no multiple platforms and organically earned my way all the way up to almost $200,000 a month without any paid marketing.
I became a millionaire doing live videos in my car on my lunch break, sitting in my bedroom floor or working at my kitchen table because I did not have an office.
I went live with my iPhone-I recorded videos with my iPhone. I didn’t use any fancy software. I taught myself to edit and do things and be resourceful.
Even now with a dream home, dream office and dream life, I still do 99% of my business the same way as I did years ago. Our cell phones are powerful tools and most people just overthink what they need to be doing in business.
I started out growing an audience on Facebook for a few years, dabbled a little bit on YouTube and then moved to Instagram about five years ago. I have also in the last five years launched a very successful top ranked podcast and that has also helped grow an audience.
I was making over $1 million a year with less than 2000 friends on Facebook and less than 7000 followers on Instagram. I’ve never had any sort of viral content and never grew a fast following but what I did have was charisma, integrity and something people wanted so even with a small following, I have been able to produce over $1 million a year in revenue consistently.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
The biggest advice I can give for managing a team and morale is that turnover is really a buzz kill to your business. I think number one it’s great to vet people before they come in and I personally hire based on integrity, ethics and personality traits over skill set because I believe anyone can learn a skill but sometimes integrity, ethics and personality cannot be taught.
I hire because I believe in the person! I have hired many people where I’ve been their first client and I helped lead them, mold them and nurture them into the person they are today and I have contractors that have been within my company for five years now.
One thing I think should be considered is that your team can be your lifeline and great communication, giving them gifts, recognizing them, giving performance bonuses etc is so key to keeping them happy and if you do have to correct them, make sure that you follow the motto “congratulate then correct.”
