We were lucky to catch up with Sarah Garcia recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sarah , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think it in order to become successful you have to believe in yourself the most . When I was in the beginning stages of opening up my salon I wrote a list of the scariest things that could happen if I started my salon . Then I wrote a list of all the possibilities that could come out of opening a salon . That list was much longer . Once you faces your fears, you realize it’s not the scary . Another key and probably the most important , is to stay consistent. Successful people are successful because they’re lucky, their successful because they’re consistent..
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
“Hair was my destiny”
I am a Colorado native who has dreamed about being a hairstylist since the age of seven. I actually graduated high school early and enrolled at The Aveda Institute in 2007. After graduating at the top of my class ,I apprenticed with one of the top rated hairstylists in Denver at the time and then earned a spot at one of Denver’s top salons.
I knew that I always wanted a career as a hairstylist, so I knew I had to work really hard in order to make this a successful career.
Continuing education has always been important to me, it’s what keeps me relevant and always improving my skill set . In 2020 I decided to open up She Loves Hair Salon.
I wanted to create a space where artist felt supported to grow into the stylist they want to be . I’ve tried my hardest to help / give opportunities I wasn’t never given . For our guests who walk into SLH , we created a spaced that feels welcoming and comfortable.
Teaching a is huge passion for me and I love that I get to help stylist start their foundation for their career. I love helping people grow.
When I’m not teaching , I’m behind the chair 3 days a week . Making my clients feel beautiful is what I love the most . I specialize in extensions and coloring. I feel so blessed that I have a career that I absolutely love , after 16 years ….. I still love it as much as I did when I first started .
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think being consistent is key in our industry. I love that I can recreate a look I did for a client and that they continue to love their hair . Also during a consultation planning for the next season and change that we could possibly do for their hair . When if comes to teaching my Co-Artist , I feel like I have a top notch program that attracts stylist who want to further their career. I think that’s what helped my build to where I’m at today .
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Honestly best source for growing clientele is Continuously posting in social media . Before and after photos are great too ! Also letting your clients now that your are trying to grow and you appreciate referrals.
