We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sarah Frick. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sarah below.
Hi Sarah, thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Small businesses are the lifeblood of our economy and for many, the ticket to true happiness and prosperity. The main focus of our shows is to showcase and uplift small businesses and makers. We strive to create an inclusive space for like-minded individuals with a focus on community, sustainability, and an appreciation for preserving history. We provide our attendees with a curated shopping experience where they can directly support 100+ local and regional vendors all in one place, in person.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Sarah Frick and I am the owner and organizer of Time Travelers Vintage Expo. We are a traveling expo hosting 100+ vendors for lovers of all things vintage & retro. Attendees of our events can find vintage clothing, home goods, records, and retro-inspired handmade items, just to name a few. TTVE was established in April 2022 as a small vintage market in Tulsa, OK and we have grown exponentially over the last year and expanded to large-scale expo halls in 5 new cities. In 2024, we will be expanding further, to 11 cities. What sets our event apart most from other antique & vintage markets would be the curated aspect of our shows. We are not a flea market and we don’t accept vendors that don’t fit the vibe of our show. If you love funky, retro, groovy items- we are the show for you! We also offer fun experiences for our guests like tarot readings, DIY screen printing, photo ops, palmistry, tintype portraits, tea leaf readings, and more. One of the most surprising things we get compliments on is our 8-hour music playlist created just for our events, it really set the tone of the show! Our growing community of vendors and attendees who are committed to shopping sustainably is the most exciting part of Time Travelers.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Social Media is an ever-changing and evolving beast to tackle, but the most important pillar of growth we’ve learned is consistency. As someone who tends to be a bit of a perfectionist, with a quality over quantity mindset, posting every day seemed overwhelming and daunting to me in the beginning. But as we’ve grown and I learn more about social media strategy, I’ve realized how important it is to show up every day and provide your followers with content that either entertains, informs, or educated them. I keep a Google doc full of reels and post ideas that I use as a checklist and this helps me organize my content schedule, without having to come up with things to post every day. Don’t overthink it, your audience values transparency and authenticity. Your posts don’t need to be “perfect.”
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
It did! The main transition for me was leaving my full-time position in corporate marketing to opt for a part-time graphic design position. The pay cut was scary, but if I hadn’t made that leap when I did, I wouldn’t have had the time to dedicate to growing my business. You have to make sacrifices, in the beginning, to give you a leg up when working towards your future. I think I am where I am today because of my tenacity in marketing my business. From experimenting with all forms of advertising to the old-fashioned leg work of hanging print posters all over town to leveraging networking from my past endeavors to cold calling news publications in hopes of getting coverage- that is what has pushed our growth.
