We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sarah Flores a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sarah , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How do you think about vacations as a business owner? Do you take them and if so, how? If you don’t, why not?
I love this question for so many reasons. When you are first starting a business, it can be incredibly difficult to step away because you are likely trying to build momentum and get the business out of the red. However, in life we need to find equilibrium. When I was a newly practicing attorney, I would bring my laptop with me on vacations and work. One time, I was in Mexico and tripped over a step while carrying my laptop. Not only did I get hurt, but I broke my brand new laptop. I took that as a divine sign, and never brought my work with me on vacation again. Like many entrepreneurs, I have experienced burnout, so it is important to avoid getting to that point. When you get to a point where you can take a vacation (if you can step away without your whole business crumbling) then you absolutely should. That should be the goal of every business owner, to have the right systems and people in place to allow you to step away and the business can continue to operate successfully. However, it does not necessarily mean you need to go on two week vacations frequently to be happy and avoid burnout. It can be as simple as taking a self care day or just spending time with family or doing things you love to do. Regardless, my advice is to designate someone to handle emergencies and turn the phone on silent, do not read messages or emails, and fully immerse yourself and be present in what you are doing while you are on a break. Whenever I do take a vacation, I come back feeling extremely motivated and my creativity levels sky rocket. Take the vacation!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
A big part of our brand at Winter Park Yoga is our social media. We take the opportunity to engage with our community and others in the health and wellness industry. It has allowed us to connect with other local businesses and work together to better serve our community. I always tell my staff to HAVE FUN with it. Stay consistent, be yourself, and have fun with it.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Having kids definitely changed the way I operate as a business owner. Efficiency became a necessity after having kids. When you have only so much time on any given day, you have to prioritize and be efficient. Before having kids, I could and would stay in the office 12-13 hours. Or I would work in the office all day and go coach sports at nights and on the weekends. Time becomes more valuable and more precious as we grow our families, so it is imperative to get the right systems in place to be as efficient as possible.
