The Story of “Frida Bee”: Celebrating Authentic Beauty and Empowerment

As someone rooted in the beauty industry, I knew that the name had to encapsulate more than just aesthetics—it had to resonate with purpose, individuality, and empowerment.

Frida Kahlo, the iconic Mexican artist and fierce activist, became my muse. Her unapologetic embrace of her unique features, her unyielding spirit, and her defiance of conventional beauty norms left a mark on me. Frida was more than an artist; she was a symbol of authenticity and courage.

The name “Frida Bee” buzzed into existence. It was a harmonious blend of two powerful elements:

Frida: A tribute to the incomparable Frida Kahlo. When people hear “Frida,” I want them to envision strength, resilience, and the freedom to be themselves—unapologetically.

Bee: Symbolizing community, collaboration, and transformation, bees create honey from diverse flowers. Frida Bee represents the sweet nectar of self-expression, whether through permanent makeup, jewelry, or piercings.

So, when you think of “Frida Bee,” remember: It’s not about beauty; it’s about being “free to be” yourself and when you step into our hive (aka our studio), know that you’re part of something bigger. Years ago, I’m sitting in a salon, heart racing, about to get my very own cosmetic tattoo. This just before the world shut down in 2021. I’ve always had a bit of a love affair with ink—permanent makeup, body tattoos, and piercings. That appointment changed everything. Suddenly, I wasn’t just getting a brow upgrade; I was stepping into my power. Having my own brows done was life changing! No more filling in the gaps from my time in the aughts over plucking to match the glam celebrity look. I had back some of my natural brow shape, just like I always wanted! The best part, they were going to last YEARS. I started chatting with my artist and soon we were scheduling classes to get me on the path of a cosmetic tattooer.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

My cosmic journey began with my own permanent makeup. It was like unlocking a hidden treasure chest. Suddenly, I saw myself feeling so passionate about something I just had to offer it to the world! And guess what? Word got out. People started whispering, “Go see Sarah. She’s got that magic touch.” Word of mouth is everything in my opinion and I definitely am honored to say I see people who tell their people and then those people do the same! Friends, families, you name it. I’ve even had the pleasure, more than once, to do permanent makeup on a mom and daughter in the same day.

Speaking of that, I’m a mom. And you know what? Moms have this superpower—they make everything feel like a warm hug. So, when you step into my studio, it’s like visiting your favorite aunt’s cozy living room. We chat about life, swap stories, and laugh. My goal is to always provide a safe, sterile and awesome environment for my clients.

Now, let’s talk ear piercings. I’m not just about adults—I welcome the little ones too. Kids tiptoe into my studio, wide-eyed and nervous. When anyone comes into my shop, their consent is KEY. Sometimes I think of this as an early exposure to what that means. They are in full control of the appointment, I don’t make any moves without the ok from my client.

Like I was saying, my studio it’s a slice of serenity. Soft music, warm lighting, and maybe a plant or two (because plants are like therapy). No bad vibes here—just some good energy and comfy chairs. Building strong client relationships and fostering brand loyalty are essential for any business. As the heart and soul behind Frida Bee, here are some ways I’ve stayed connected:

Social Media Magic: Ah, Instagram—the modern campfire where stories are shared. I will post behind-the-scenes glimpses, client transformations, and some fun plant pics. I try to engage with comments and keep up with my DMs.

Local Events: I participate in many of our downtown events. I’m lucky to have my studio in downtown Worthington, Ohio, where we have monthly night markets, Sunday fundays throughout the year, and even special holiday shopping events.
