We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sarah Fischer. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sarah below.
Hi Sarah, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My Why. I have been photographing humans and love for the past 3 years, I always say I have the best “job” in the world because it has hardly felt like work. Every person I’ve been able to meet on the other side of my camera has changed me for the better in one way or another, and I only hope I do that for them too. I prioritize experience over everything. At the end of the day most any photographer can deliver good photos, but I want to give more than that – I want to hold space for you to show up completely yourself with hearts wide open. Forget the poses & expectations of what photos “should” be, let’s create something beautiful together that authentically preserves this milestone of your life, no matter how big or small.
Sarah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Originally a Nevada native but decided to exchange one desert for the other and moved to Tucson, Arizona. I’m about as laid back as they come so please don’t ask me where I want to eat, making that decision stresses me out. I got my start in photography as teenager when my mom gave me her camera and said I “had the eye”…the rest is history. I specialize in weddings and elopements, but I still shoot everything in between! Couples who love adventure, nature, and being real are my kind of people.
My closest people describe me as a hybrid. My sense of style + hobbies just aren’t your typical pairings that you may think. I am enthralled with everything about life. I’m a person with a mind that is never quiet. I spend every spare second I get with my husband Jarrod and my dogs and close friends. Reading + writing, hunting, leather working, long car rides, all things art, endless polaroid pictures, fearless attitude about the future and solid alone time. I’m a sucker for nostalgia– anything that takes you back to a moment in time and makes your heart fill to the brim. That music playing in your head while you reminisce about your first dance at your wedding. I always have a camera to document that everlasting memory. I have tons of boxes full of pictures all with little notes written on the backs of them, a non-traditional way to keep a photo album. but it makes me so happy. Those are just a few things that make my heart happiest. I take any opportunity I possibly can to create ever lasting friendships.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients is always word of mouth. I love when I get referred clients from past brides or couples because they have expressed to their own friends and family how much they loved working with me. That shows that we connected and they felt seen. I believe love is love. I aim to hold space for every individual who connects with my work and to me, it is an honor to create an inclusive and safe space for individuals and couples. Without hesitation, pause, or questions, I will lovingly document any milestone for any human who feels a connection to me or my work.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
A big goal of mine is that I want photography to be more than something on my clients checklist of things to do for their wedding. You don’t realize it now while you’re so focused on centerpieces, and who’s sitting where, and bridesmaid dresses, and florals — but photography is really the only thing that lasts past your wedding day. The number one thing I hear from couples who went cheap on photos for their wedding is how much they regret it or how they wish they would have connected with someone else that matched their energy. Photographs are something that will only increase in value over time as the images get passed down generations. You deserve to have a photographer that will fit all of your wants and needs– including your budget. I’m passionate about capturing couples who believe in the value of meaningful, authentic photographs that will last a lifetime.
