We recently connected with Sarah ELQA and have shared our conversation below.
Sarah, appreciate you joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I am a self-taught artist. Painting has always been a passion and present in our family. My ancestor is the Fauvist French painter Maurice Devlaminck. Before becoming an artist, I was a fashion designer for ten years. My management studies have served me a lot in my artistic career because it has helped me to better communicate and building my own business. Today, I know that it also helps me in my everyday life. I think the most important thing is self-confidence, which could have helped me show my art much earlier, but it’s something that comes with time.

Sarah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I come from a double French culture by my mother and Moroccan by my father. As I said before, art is a family affair. I have always painted since I was very young but I had never shown my paintings to people other than my family. It was only three years ago that I decided to show to the world my work, during this period I met my husband who is also an international artist. He gave me even more self-confidence and many advices to share my artistic universe and it allowed me to make my name known internationally. My style of painting is contemporary, I represent a lot of characters in my paintings. Indeed, I travel a lot and the different people I meet as well as their cultures inspire me a lot.
I am also very present on social media, I share with my followers my daily life because I find that it is important to also show who we are beyond painting, and that is what my followers and my collectors appreciate.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
What motivates me on a daily basis is to want to make my work even more known to the world, which pushes me to surpass myself all the time by creating new artworks but also by participating to Art exhibitions.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
What I like most about being an artist is the notion of freedom : the freedom of creation, no one can impose itself between me and my canvas, I am free to express myself and free to show what I want .
