We were lucky to catch up with Sarah Cassidy recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sarah, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Alright – so having the idea is one thing, but going from idea to execution is where countless people drop the ball. Can you talk to us about your journey from idea to execution?
From the time was 8, I always knew I would paint, create, and be an artist. My first painting was in my back yard on a Saturday in Los Angeles, California. I am native Californian. I asked my father if I could paint something. I had no training, and had no supplies, So from the garage my Father brought out all the paint he could find, nailed a large piece of wood to a peach tree and gave me some brushes! I painted a tree. Even though I use many mediums, the first painting in nature set the stage for creating outdoors.
Having that experience led to further work of the landscape, both the sea, the mountains and in-between.
I began formal training in my early twenties, I also studied with independent and established artist’s. Exhibits began in college settings.
I began formal art training in the early 70’s. By then I had moved to Laguna Beach, California with my children and husband of that era! Living in an incredibly creative environment was so inspiring!
I began exhibiting in college settings, and from there moved on to showing in hotels, restaurants, galleries and one man shows. I have painted for private collectors and taken on commissions as well.
I am still growing and as an artist, and continue to look for new avenues to advance my passion.

Sarah, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Art is personal. Art is emotional. My clients new and old, and ones to come, will always receive what they need from me as a designer, decorator and painter. I do at times advise on decor, but for the most part they look for something special that they will look at for a very long time, every day.
At the heart and center of my creations is the environmental palette that dominates my productions of today. Transcending a myriad of light and a deft use of color, my work speaks to others in any language, displaying a colorful world, wide and accessible, painting from the inside out. I show perfection in the imperfection, peace and beauty in each completed piece.
My concentration is in the landscape, the human form, and the abstract. My styles vary from impressionistic to contemporary. I use a diverse range of mediums: acrylic, pen and ink, oil, alcohol inks, penned ink, watercolor, and pressed wax. I do not limit myself to any single medium. Texture and Light are in each vision, they connect all of humanity.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
This is a great topic. It intrigues me. I speak to many people who say, “I cannot draw or make anything at all” . They feel like they may be missing something or they SHOULD be able to create something as professional and as seasoned and trained artist.
I think everyone is creative in one way or another, although it may be inaccessible in their perception. Or possibly the expectation of making something that is recognized as worthy is fearful of failure.
I always encourage those to try. To sit down and draw or paint what they feel with no judgement. As soon and they feel free, they can begin to learn and feel their desire to create.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The goal is to give. To give color. To ignite inspiration. I believe in my journey that its not just a compliment for someone to choose your paintings, but to know they have chosen it for themselves in most cases, for a personal reason.
Yes, it’s always good, and to be honest, receiving compensation for one’s work is always reinforcing and gratifying. Yet the underlying reason is painting from visions, inspiration and feelings.
