Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Bossio
Hi Sarah, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
This is a COVID story, as so many entrepreneurs can identify with. When COVID hit, I was teaching special education to high schools with profound disabilities in a self-contained high school. My job was stressful, both physically and emotionally, and while I was happy to remove the physical stress by working remotely, this new way of working opened my eyes to the holes in our education system. I found that, now more than ever, my district was more concerned about their budget than the well-being of my students or their staff. Seeing how my husband’s corporation supported him through the pandemic had me raising a lot of questions as to why I was working so hard, caring so much, and earning way less than my peers with less degrees.
I knew I needed to have a career with more flexibility that allowed me to be more present with my 2 young children but still enabled me to teach. Teaching is my calling and after lots of self-reflection, I realized that I could still teach, support, and help children without the confines of a classroom and a school district.
Another passion of mine is sleep, because you don’t realize how much you love or need sleep until you become a parent. I decided to create a business that would allow me to teach parents all about their children’s sleep in order to ensure that their entire family would get a full night of sleep. I would call this a dream job, but it’s more than a job for me. I love helping other parents, because it truly takes a village and I feel so lucky to be teaching something I love, in order to change people’s lives.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As a generally positive person, this has been a pretty smooth road! I am grateful for a husband and in-laws who have always supported this venture from day one, with their advice, encouragement, and availability to help with our kids when I needed to work on the business. It was scary when I ultimately decided to not go back to the classroom and take the business full-time, but I knew immediately that this was the best decision for our family.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Your Zen Baby Sleep?
Your Zen Baby Sleep provides expert sleep training assistance to tired parents of children ages 0-8 years old. Families work one-on-one with a certified sleep consultant who creates a personalized sleep program for their child. They receive follow-up support to guide them during the program implementation. Ultimately, the goal of working with each family is to achieve their sleep goals, which typically include having their child learn the skill of falling asleep independently, sleeping through the night, and taking great naps during the day. This translates to parents getting their time and their sanity back!
My background with 15 years in special education as well as my training as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst is what sets me apart from most consultants. I have extensive experience in working with children as well as helping parents modify their behavior.
From a brand perspective, I am most proud that I have helped to serve over 500 families and have a 98% success rate with my program.
What are your plans for the future?
Looking forward to the future, I am planning on expanding my business to include more team members, specifically other sleep consultants. I am also offering a group sleep training program so that more people have access to sleep consulting services.
