We recently connected with Sarah Borroto and have shared our conversation below.
Sarah, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
For as long as I can remember going all the way back to elementary school I’ve always liked art. I had it as an elective up until I graduated high school but I was also in love with everything that had to do with beauty including hair, nails, and skin care. Growing up the nail designs and nail products/equipment that we see now did not exist back then, so I never thought that the nail industry would become what it is today. I enrolled into beauty school after high school but COVID 19 struck the world shorty after. During that time I spent a lot of time on tiktok and kept seeing nail videos all over my fyp so I went on Amazon and bought a bunch of nail supplies to keep myself busy and started to practice doing nails on my mom and sister. I quickly started to see that I really liked doing nails and just being able to experiment with my creativity. I realized then that I can include my love for art and beauty together in one and pursue a creative path professionally.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Sarah Borroto I am 23 year old licensed nail technician from Miami FL who specializes in nail art. I offer services like gel-x, acrylic, and pedicures.
I joined the nail world in 2020 during the pandemic when I got laid off from work. I was enrolled in celebrity school of beauty at the time and I started practicing nails nonstop with all the free time I had and some how grew a passion for it.
I feel like what sets me apart from other nail tech is my nail art. All of the designs I do on my clients nails are hand drawn by me. I have spent countless hours, energy & money on perfecting my craft by learning from so many amazing artists in the nail industry to be able to provide the best quality work for my clients.
The thing that I am most proud of is that not only do I get to have my dream career and get to work with so many great clients but I also am a educator and I get to teach people from all over my tricks and tips on how to do nails. It’s such an amazing feeling when a student leaves a class of mine feeling more confident in her work and is so excited to continue or start their nail journey.
I feel like even though my journey has just begun I am so excited to see what the future has in stores for me. I am looking forward to continuing to grow as an artist. Everyday I learn something new.
– I don’t just do nails I crate art –

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is getting to work with such amazing clients who put all of their trust in me and appreciate my work. Clients who were once strangers and are now family, I get to go into work every day and explore my creativity freely with different designs and techniques while being a therapist all at the same time lol. They are the ones to push me to do crazy awesome designs when I heavily doubt myself, pushing me every day to get out of my comfort zone and try something I’ve never done before.

How did you build your audience on social media?
The way it started was when I noticed I would scroll through tiktok and watch nail art videos for hours. At this time I was only uploading pictures of my work on Instagram and had no clue on how to market myself. I started to realize videos were getting a lot more exposure then pictures and that I needed to start posting on tiktoks & reels. I went on Amazon and brought and new desk light and a phone stand to start recording content. I started to record transitions at first because it was the easiest thing I can figure out how to do. Once I start to record videos of me doing nail art design, or videos of the nail process I started to get more a lot more exposure. My advice for anyone who is just starting to build the social media presence is be creative and consistent on the content that you post. Everyday there is a new trendy nail design or type of video that is circulating the internet so interact along with your followers to see what type of content they would like to see from you. Be very consistent and post at least once a day keeping up with all the trends. Post fun and educational videos that people will keep watching over and over again. Remember some content will do better than others, I’ve had times were it took me three hours to record, edit and put together a video just for it to get like 10 likes lol. you can’t get discourage you just have to keep going.
