We recently connected with Sarah Balducci and have shared our conversation below.
Sarah, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
We both love doing photography because it allows us to be creative & focus on that creativity aside from our “regular” jobs. Bo & I (Sarah) are not even “full-time” photographers……crazy right?! Bo is a physical therapist & I am finishing up my last year in pharmacy school so it kinda blows minds when we tell them photography is our “side gig.” We started photography during our undergraduate years as a small, simple business just trying to make a few bucks on the side & WOW has it grown! We do photography now because it does make us happy & we wouldn’t change that for the world.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
A little about the two of us always starts right at the beginning – high school! Bo & I have been dating since our freshman year of high school. We survived many many proms & homecomings to get us to college at Mississippi State University where we studied Kinesiology (Bo) & Biochemistry (Sarah). We became die hard bulldog fans (HAIL STATE) & went to every football game you could imagine! Now we have made our way to Memphis where both went to the University of Tennessee Health Science Center to purse our dreams of becoming doctors (Doctorate of Physical Therapy & Pharm D). Bo graduated recently in May of 2022 & now works full time as a physical therapist at Pittman Physical Therapy. I am in my last year of pharmacy school with graduation approaching in May of 2023 (FINALLY)!!
The story of how we started photography:
I’ll never forget the night we both thought of doing a photography business – Bo had gotten a somewhat nice camera & decided he would take some photos after he proposed to me on it. When we got to looking at those photos, we were both like ‘wowww those are pretty dope” & then started logistics of a photography business. We started in Starkville MS & moved our business with us to the good ol’ 901, otherwise known as Memphis TN.
Services we provide
We mainly focus on capturing the love between couples – weddings, engagements, proposals! We also provide services for our fellow photographers through being hosts of styled photoshoots here in Memphis as well as hosting travel retreat photoshoots!
How did you build your audience on social media?
Social media has helped us A TON with our business & the best advice I would give anyone is to BE CONSISTENT while also maintaining the algorithm!
posting content that speaks to your style & niche also helps your audience gauge your personality & vibe with you overall as a person!
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
We started with a cheap lil Nikon camera & did the best we could until we made some money to invest in our business! Always remember to invest in yourself & your business for optimal success!
