We were lucky to catch up with Sara Troy recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Sara thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. One deeply underappreciated facet of entrepreneurship is the kind of crazy stuff we have to deal with as business owners. Sometimes it’s crazy positive sometimes it’s crazy negative, but crazy experiences unite entrepreneurs regardless of industry. Can you share a crazy story with our readers?
As a Podcaster one has to deal with many things that can go wrong. A client not turning up, not ready for the interview, internet dropping happens a lot, and internet interruption that only catches every other word. But, the biggest for me was having an Ash=thma attack on the air. I was lucky enough to be interviewing a Mother of 15 children and she was calm while I gasped for breath. Once the attack was over, a laugh and now a husky voice, we resumed the conversation. I cut the attack out of the video but left an explanation for my husky voice. Stuff happens, it in how we deal with it that matters, calm light, and continue.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I wrote an article that someone from another network saw, who then invited me to join her podcast network. At the time I did not know what a Podcast was. I spent 13 months doing live shows, a great experience, now I have 10 years under my belt as a professional podcaster on my own network Self Discovery Wisdom.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
In the podcasting world social media is key. It is not just about posting your show, but interactions with your potential audience.I spend up to an hour a day going through my social media and commenting, supporting, and sharing shows that are relatable to their topic. We all want to be seen for who we are and not a cash number and social media can be a place where you can build trust, caringness, kindness, and a following, be real and invite realness.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Open honesty, not trying to be someone else, and allowing myself to be enough as I am. If you want people to buy from you, they first must buy you. They are looking for people who will give them the time and service that THEY need and not what is imposed upon them. People want real, and relatability. They want to know you care and that support is there for them. We are in a world where we have become disconnected from ourselves, and people are desperately looking for connections that help them connect to themselves..
My reputation has been built one show at a time and with close to 3000 shows under my belt, I have built a platform of integrity and respect that is referred out and many of my guests come back on air with me for that reason.
