Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sara Perez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sara, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
When the time came for me to decide on a name for my hair salon, I didn’t want just any name. I wanted the name to mean something special to me. I knew I wanted the name to represent all my hard work and dedication. I decided to name my hair salon “Nena’s Beauty Salon” in honor of my daughter. She was my motivation through my journey and my hard work.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Sara Perez and I am the hair salon owner of Nena’s Beauty Salon. Ever since I was younger I had passion for doing hair. I would always experiment with my hair and even helping my friends with their hair. Once I had my children, I would take them to get hair cuts often. They inspired me to go to school to be able to learn how to cut and do hair. My children are my biggest motivation for opening my salon.
My main goal is to bring happiness to all of my clients. I focus on creating a safe place for my clients to come and distress while I make them look even more fabulous!
My salon is a full family salon focusing on all cuts, hair color, and waxing . My biggest passion when it comes to doing hair is creating beautiful colors for my clients.
I’m proud of how far my salon as came, specially after all the obstacles that the pandemic brought.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
The idea of opening my own salon was made while working long hours at a different salon. I wanted to be my own boss and make my own decisions. I found a great place to open a salon when the pandemic started. This brought many complications during the starting processes of opening my business. I didn’t let that bring me down and I kept working hard to make the opening of my salon possible. I didn’t give up no matter the circumstances and I made my dream of opening my own salon possible while in the middle of a pandemic. Luckily, I was able to keep my shop busy and open through all the pandemic. Up to this date, I’m still grateful for all the opportunities that my salon has brought me.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Before I became a stylist I was working at a restaurant waitressing and bartending. One day I realized that I was getting tired of working in a place were I wasn’t applying myself to my full potential. I wasn’t feeling happy with where I was at and I knew it was time to change my career path. Opening my hair salon was the best career decision I made.
