We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sara Nicole Tynan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sara Nicole below.
Sara Nicole, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
In January of this year 2022 I decided I wanted to be more present with my kids and husband so I planned to stop taking on extra gigs. I had been doing a lot of party yoga teaching, group sound baths; making more commitments to expand my yoga business. As soon as I got clear on how I wanted that to look (teach yoga a few times a week and be with the family all the other times) I heard a very clear message from the Lord. Mental Health needed to become part of my business/ministry. Last year I wrote a book and discussed my own journey through life with a bipolar diagnosis. This year I’m creating a conference to equip people with tools to become their healthiest selves, especially regarding their mental health. It became clear to me that this needed to be a free event so that it was accessible to all. This conference takes a lot of time to prepare, time away from my family that will not bring income….I am 100% okay with that. This is a risk (transforming my business into a ministry so that I can help others) but I KNOW in my heart that it is the right thing to do. If I can help someone feel that they are seen, heard and loved; if that can stop someone from taking their own life- that is enough for me! An added benefit of turning my income producing business into a life changing ministry is that my children will get to see the importance of helping others. I hope I make them proud one day.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers?
When I had a miscarriage in 2017 I decided to leave corporate America to work at a yoga studio as a front desk clerk. I fell in love with yoga and all that it represented. After bringing on tools such as sound healing, meditation and mindfulness coaching I created my brand: Sara Nicole Yoga. In 2021 I wrote a book titled So That: A Story of God’s Glory. The book tells about my journey through life with a bipolar diagnosis. The sole intention of putting this book out there (on Amazon) was to bring hope to people going through any “storm”; to remind them that a rainbow will come. I am currently teaching yoga classes at a studio in Burleson Texas; selling my book on Amazon, creating and producing Rise: The Mental Health Conference, and enjoying any down time with my husband, Seth and two children Stella and Sage.
I enjoy coming up with weekly themes to help my yoga students have peaceful and positive lives outside of their yoga practice.
I love when I get a chance to tie my faith into the conversation. I make it a priority to NOT shove Jesus down peoples throats but explain how his accepting love can change your life.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Obviously the entire world experienced resilience when the pandemic hit. I truly believe I used lockdown time to my advantage. I was not happy to be locked at home while living with my in laws as we attempted to pay off medical and school debt. My yoga career had really just begun. I was determined to not let lock down put me down! I signed up for multiple virtual trainings in sound healing, meditation and mindfulness coaching. These trainings helped me transform my brand into what it is today! I rose above the challenges and came out stronger than ever!
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
If I could turn the clock back I would find yoga YEARS earlier so that I had more time to enjoy a personal practice before I dove into teaching others. I would take this journey into teaching yoga over and over again.
I love that I’ve added to my brand other tools like meditation and mental health help! I would absolutely choose this path any day.
