We were lucky to catch up with Sara Leeds recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Sara thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
They allowed me to be myself at all times. They supported me at all times. They gave me advice when I needed it, but never pried or inserted themselves into my decisions when I didn’t ask. They showed me the world through their unique lens, but didn’t enforce their values on me before I could come to conclusions myself. They showed me the value in intellectual curiosity, kindness, patience, and simple joys in life.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi! My name is Sara Leeds and I am a creative director, content creator, and producer.
My most meaningful project to date is being the creator and host of Doorman Stories. I got to where I am professionally by making a huge career pivot from corporate (management consulting) to a creative path in social media marketing. It honored a younger version of myself true to who I really am that I think I ignored for way too long. It was and is not easy to work in a creative field and constantly feel the pull of comparing myself to others!
I want fellow creatives to know that whatever you’re feeling, it’s undoubtedly a feeling many other people experience too. We’re far less alone than we think. I also want to share that the fear of wondering “what if” will always be greater than the fear of just going for it.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Newsletters! Reading in short bursts/ in article format holds my attention best. And I’ve found that discovering a variety of newsletters catering to creatives has been so helpful for me. They make me feel connected to a community, provide inspiration and motivation for my own career, and keep me curious and learning about the industry. Some of my favorites are:
After School by Casey Lewis
I Love Mess by Emily Kirkpatrick
Publish Press by Colin and Samir
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Yes! My mission is to tell stories that make people feel happy and think differently. This mission has completely supported how I stay motivated throughout my creative journey. I find it really hard to stay in one niche or stick to one topic, so having this mission as my through-line has helped me stay sane throughout all my wavering interests.
