We recently connected with Sara Haar and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Sara thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I first picked up a camera at the age of 16 years old. I knew I wanted to be a photographer, but I didn’t know which type of photography I wanted to specialize in, so I did everything I could. After a few years, my sister-in-law reached out to me and asked me if I wanted to do some boudoir portraits for her and I jumped at the opportunity. Since then, I’ve been specializing in boudoir portraits. Both solo, and couples’ portraits.

Sara, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Sara Haar, and I am a boudior photographer located in Northern Kentucky. Williamstown Kentucky to be exact.
I got into this industry honestly, because my sister-in-law asked me if I’ve ever done one, I said no, and we booked a hotel room did her session and I’ve never looked back! And now I continue to be a boudoir photographer to show women that loving their bodies is normal and needed in their lives! I don’t care who you are, getting naked in front of a camera will give you that confidence you’ve been looking for if you completely lost it at some point in your life.
I do my sessions a lot differently now than I did in the beginning. I used to book a session and give every client every single image because I thought that’s what I had to do. And now clients book, and they get the option to choose digitals and other products that I have available when they come here for their session!
I try to make every single clients session a little bit different from the other. Mainly because I just don’t want every single client getting the exact same experience and the exact same 2 hours. I want their sessions to be a little different from each other, I want their session to be based on their needs and their poses that we choose to be based on what they like the best!
One thing that I do differently than a lot of photographers in the area, at least I think I do, is my studio is also my home. One day I was talking to my husband and I asked him if I was able to turn our living room into my boudoir studio, and he said as long as it doesn’t interfere with him living here, he didn’t care! So that weekend I started painting our house, and getting this home boudior studio ready! I can confidently say that all of my clients have a very unique studio and background compared to all the other studios that other photographers use!
I definitely love showing my clients that they’re real bodies that they’re in right now, are the most beautiful thing in the world!

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn that what other photographers thought of my work, was irrelevant. Yes, it’s nice to have other photographers tell you that your work’s amazing and they love it. But they are not my clients! I shouldn’t care what they think, and it held me back for a lot of years.
I only care what my clients think! That’s exactly how it should be!
How did you build your audience on social media?
Even though I do wish my social media was a lot bigger than it, is, being present on social media is probably the hardest part of my job! It’s the part of the job that sometimes you do have to spend a lot of time on, but when you have so much other important stuff to do, it always gets put on the back burner. Or at least for me it does!
I’m on pretty much all platforms. I used to be on TikTok and they banded my account because it’s a boudoir account. And my following there got all the way up to the hundred thousands, and I lost it. I was definitely heartbroken when that happened! But I’ll get back there. On a different platform, but I’ll get back there!
