We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sara Bruce a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sara, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
What I think it takes to be successful in the line of storm chasing is to be passionate about what is happening right outside your door. Even though I consider myself as a storm chaser, I could say I chase the sky and find beauty in the sky ranging from sun rises to sunsets, storms and lightning. The weather calls my name. Don’t ever be afraid to go out there, to chase your dreams, to ask questions, but remember safety first.
Sara, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For those who may not know me, my name is Sara Bruce but I go by the name of Weather Jinxer Storm Chaser which is a part of my nickname that I had received from a long time ago from family members when it came to predicting a horrible storm that was going to hit really quickly in my own hometown. It has just stuck since then. I have basically my own Facebook page as well as Instagram and other pages that I upload my images and my journey of chasing the sky as well as storms. Whether it goes from capturing beautiful sunrises to sunsets, to lightning to storms, you will always see me out on the road capturing the beauty within Mid-Central Missouri. I started to chase at a young age of 12 when I used to go out with my father to chase storms as a hobby that has since grown over the years, this year back in May 2022 was the first time I launched my page for the world to see versus just sharing my perspective with family and friends. I’m in the process of working with a photographer to give my camera a go but at the moment the majority of the photos are from just using my phone. So you don’t have to have a fancy camera to just take pictures, you can use whatever you have whether it’s a phone or camera. Just don’t give up.
