We were lucky to catch up with Sara Badea recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sara, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Throughout my years of starting a business and consistently running and growing it, I’ve learned that becoming successful is a mindset of pure dedication. Without believing in yourself and your business, you won’t flourish. I began my business my senior year of High School in the midst of COVID. I dedicated time and energy to perfect my craft as well a build community with my clients. Without building a relationship with every individual, my business would not be where it is now. I prioritize treating my clients with honesty, love, and respect, making them feel welcomed and comfortable with me. Starting a business with the odds of COVID against me strengthened my determination and mindset towards dedicating myself daily to serving my clients and business, leading to success.
Sara, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Sara and I have been a Beauty Salon owner for the past 3 years. I began my business during my senior year of High School which happened to be right at the beginning of COVID. With all the uncertainty in the world and the closure of schools and universities, I wasn’t sure what I would do with my future. I had a hobby of makeup which I would do as a side hustle as I was working and in school full time. I ended up taking a Permanent Makeup course and fell in love with it. I didn’t feel any nervousness when working on my first model which really cemented the feeling that I was meant to do this. By graduation, I was doing brows full time and had quit my job to commit myself to my business. I moved into my first suite and began growing my clientele. Now, I am consistently fully booked 3-4 weeks in advance. I’ve expended on my services and I have an overflow of returning clients keeping me busy. I was able to achieve this by building a relationship with each one of my clients by serving their needs and by putting all my effort into growing in my skill and craft. In this new year, I will be incorporating new services as well as merchandise to expand my business name!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building a social media following is a process that takes constancy. Since I’ve started my business, I’ve prioritized being relevant on social media. I post every day, typically at noon as that is the active time for my clientele. I also post on my story throughout the day and photos of each service I perform. As much as this can be annoying, I hear it often that clients will tell me that seeing my posts remind them of my services and reminds them to book. I’ve noticed great results by posting TikToks and Instagram Reels. These are popular nowadays and will increase your following. That is how I grew my account to 17k and continue growing it. Consistency can be nerve wracking and feel time consuming, but the results will catch up with the effort.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
When it comes to growing my clientele, I’ve seen results from social media and word of mouth programs. Along with consistently posting on social media, I would also post on Facebook groups. This helped me get my name out and around. I also came up with programs such as discounts when bringing in your friend, gift of free service after 6 consecutive visits, and occasional joint giveaways! Giving back to my clients has shown great results in their loyalty to my business.
