Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Santiago Torres. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Santiago, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Being successful to me mean doing what you love. My definition of success it’s not having wealth but, rather how many lives are you able to touch with what you do as a human being.
Santiago, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am Santiago. I am Latino from Mexico and a small business owner. I started working in the food industry at the age of 9 years old in my country of origin. I have worked in the industry since, and I also have done lots of other jobs like gardening, and all related to construction work. However, food always have been my passion. DFW has been my home for 20years now. 12 of those years I have worked for Darden corporation with the Olive Garden branch. I started as a server, and then 6 months latter became a certified trainer for the restaurant and two years latter I became an assistant manager. Got the promotion to become a manager but my goal were different back then. I wanted to go back to college and get my RN degree. Well unfortunately algebra has never been my favorite subject so I was super challenging for me. So I started thinking what can I do next. So started looking into the massage academy. Soon I realized that I rather start looking into how to start my own business. And the journey began in 2018. By the beginning of 2019 I started formally doing local farmers markets around DFW. The concept is Mexican and Salvadoran food. I craft a variety of items for the costumers to enjoy. Some of the items are pupusas, quesadillas, Tamales, elote and aguas frescas.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
COVID pandemic has started during the time that I was launching “Losdos Hermanos Cocina Latina”. It was súper scary. I thought that was the end of my journey. In addition my pick up truck was stolen. So I thought that was it. But I believe God allowed me to keep having faith and keep moving on.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Well we all like fresh made food. Losdos Hermanos Cocina Latina bring an authentic concept. Everything that is made it’s fresh and handcrafted. In addition quality plays a big role in the growth of the business.
