We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Santia Deck a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Santia , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?

I hope that when it’s all said it done i will be remembered for the woman who broke through many glass ceilings. I’ve made history in a make dominated sport like football, I’ve become the first female athlete to own a shoe company and i plan on being the first of many more things in this lifetime. I believe in going after EVERYTHING you want in this life , no matter how big or how small it might seem to other people . I want my future children to know that their mother took whips and lashes so that when it was their turn, they didn’t have to get in out the mud the way i did . I also want to use every talent and gift God put in me at birth , so at the end of my life i can tell him , “ I used everything”.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

My name is Santia Deck and I made history twice by becoming the first female athletes on the shoe company and by being offered the highest contract ever in women’s football history. My shoe company, Tronus, lauched during the pandemic in 2020, and I landed this opportunity due to my following on social media and also by selling out shoes for another company that I was previously working with as an ambassador. The designer came to me one day and asked did I ever think about creating my own shoe, and I said I definitely have being a fan of Michael Jordan, Allen Iverson and many other basketball players. We came together and I told him that I would like my shoe to be a combination of a Balenciaga high top sneaker and a Jordan but I wanted it to be unique and stand out and I wanted to make sure that the colors in the design cannot be mistaken for any other shoe company in the industry. Once he nailed the design I put The mock up version of the shoe on my Instagram and it went crazy and From there we decided to do a intaglio signature shoe line and I put the rest of the designs on LinkedIn and Instagram a second time and it went viral on LinkedIn and it went even crazier on Instagram. My mom then approached us and said let’s do a shoe company you have the engagement the following in the loyalty from your followers. We also make sure to do market research as well to understand the shoot industry but also understand my analytics with my social media to make sure it made sense to even launch is shoe company.
Once we confirm that we prayed on it as a family and we decided to go ahead and take that leap of faith and now I’m here in 2022 still standing and thriving. God is good !

How did you build your audience on social media?

I built my audience of ig by posting my college track and field workouts and gym routines back in 2012. I started getting a lot of attention because I was consistently posting my track and fill workouts and doing things that the average person probably couldn’t do in the gym and my post started to be shared on really large media platforms and people started to take a notice to my stomach which is how I was crowned the title queen of abs. I was also obsessed with Cross promoting with other influencers to grow my following rapidly I was also obsessively doing social media resource to understand what I need to do to become an influencer.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

I had to unlearn the lesson of you can only be one thing. I was told many times at the start of my social media career that is best to focus on one thing and be really really good at one thing instead of trying to be good at everything but just put in a lot of work. I personally don’t believe in limiting yourself and what it is you wanna do and be in this lifetime.
