We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Santeresa Wilson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Santeresa, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?

The mission of Inspired By U is to provide a safe environment for Adults who have been suffering in silent with traumatic events that that have impacted their lives. We believe that healthy parents, means health youth, which ultimately leads to healthy families reducing crime and violence in the world.

Santeresa, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

I used to tell my children that before I was titled “mom,” I was Santeresa. I breathe, bleed, hurt, and cry like them, because I am an individual. I felt that this was important to express because sometimes as a parent the expectation from our children is that we are super people who do not experience anything. However, psychology teaches us that trauma can be passed down generationally and sometimes from an unhealthy place. We as adults, tend to focus more on providing a safe place for our children, from a hurt or damaged place. At Inspired By U, we believe that in order to be a best version of a mother, father, sister, ect, that you have to become a better version of yourself which first begins with self healing/love. We work with our clients, utilizing ART therapy to help adults achieve healing and wholeness! We also, offer support groups and individual therapy as another means of support.

Have you ever had to pivot?

Before Inspired by U, I was an aspiring Life Coach and business was not too great! I laugh because I thought that I would look like everyone else. I mean the coaches online make it look so simple! However, God had another plan for me! He allowed for me to take my knowledge/expertise and create Inspired By U Trauma Resource Center, a place of TRUST (Truth, Respect, Uplift, Safety, Transparency) for adults to come and heal!

Through this process, I was reassured that not all businesses will look the same and I stand in the authenticity of who I am!

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?

When I started Inspired By U, I did a lot of speaking engagements. Some were free and some were paid. The key was exposure! I did research that allowed for me to cut costs because I did not have the funds that many people was asking for to assist me in establishing my business. I used free and user friendly sites and created one step at a time. Business cards were very important at this time! Always be prepared to give out your contact information!
