We were lucky to catch up with Santanya Mcclary recently and have shared our conversation below.
Santanya, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
The idea for Snappin It Up Photobooths grew from a vision and a determination to bring memorable experiences to events. Once I had the idea, the next step was to dive deep into research. I knew I needed the right equipment to provide top-notch experiences, so I started by exploring various companies that offered photobooth equipment. I combed through company websites, paying close attention to client testimonials. These reviews gave me insight into the user experience, helping me distinguish between quality products and those that might not stand the test of time.
But I didn’t stop there. I reached out to about three business owners who had been in the photobooth industry for at least five years. I wanted to learn from those who had not only started but also sustained their success. Their willingness to share their experiences was invaluable. They didn’t just give me advice on which equipment and software were best; they also shared lessons learned, mistakes to avoid, and tips on maintaining high standards of quality and professionalism. Those conversations gave me a roadmap to navigate the industry.
With that knowledge, I set out to build a solid foundation for my business. Developing a business plan was crucial – it wasn’t just about having a vision but about having a strategy to bring that vision to life. I made sure to reflect on my plan often, understanding that it wasn’t set in stone. Flexibility was key because as time went on, new opportunities and challenges would arise, and my business plan had to evolve with them.
Setting clear goals became the next priority. I started by establishing a business name and brand that resonated with my target audience. I wanted something fun yet professional, a name people would remember and associate with unforgettable experiences. Ensuring my business was properly set up meant handling all the legalities, from registering the business to getting the necessary licenses and permits. Budgeting was also a crucial step – knowing where to invest for the best return was vital, from equipment to marketing strategies.
I knew that in order to stand out, I needed more than just great equipment – I needed to know how to use it effectively. That meant dedicating time to learn the ins and outs of the software and hardware. I practiced relentlessly, ensuring that by the time I was ready to launch, I could provide a seamless and enjoyable experience for every client.
Marketing and branding were equally important. I wanted to create a buzz, to get people talking about Snappin It Up Photobooths before they even experienced it. I carefully crafted a marketing strategy that included social media engagement, word-of-mouth referrals, and building strong community connections.
Most importantly, I knew that exceptional customer service and professionalism would set me apart. From the first interaction to the end of each event, I aimed to exceed expectations, leaving clients not just satisfied but excited to recommend my services.
From idea to execution, the journey of launching Snappin It Up Photobooths was about strategic planning, continuous learning, and a relentless commitment to quality. It wasn’t just about starting a business; it was about creating unforgettable moments for every event, one snapshot at a time.

Santanya, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Snappin It Up Photoboothsn was started with a passion for creating memorable experiences at events. I didn’t just want to provide a photobooth – I wanted to offer a unique photo and video experience that would leave a lasting impression. My journey into this industry began with an idea and a lot of curiosity. I dove into research, exploring different companies that offered photobooth equipment and reading countless client testimonials. But I knew that wasn’t enough. I reached out to industry veterans, people who had been in the business for at least five years. Their insights on quality equipment, reliable software, and lessons learned along the way were invaluable. That guidance gave me the confidence to take the leap.
I bring 14 years of teaching experience to my business, which has equipped me with the ability to differentiate my clients’ needs and events the same way I differentiate instruction for my students. Just as no two students learn the same way, no two events are alike. This perspective allows me to tailor each experience, ensuring that every detail resonates with the client’s vision.
At Snappin It Up Photobooths, we go beyond traditional photobooths. We provide a full photo and video experience, perfect for all types of events – from weddings, corporate events, and other special occasions. Our services are designed to create fun, interactive experiences that guests will remember long after the event is over. We offer a variety of enhancements, giving clients the flexibility to tailor their experience to fit the theme and vibe of their event.
What sets us apart is our commitment to quality and exceptional customer service. We engage with our clients, making sure everything runs smoothly and guests are having a great time. We pride ourselves on our professionalism and attention to detail, ensuring that every interaction, from the first inquiry to the end of the event, reflects our dedication to excellence.
I am also committed to continuous growth and staying at the forefront of the industry. I have attended the annual Photobooth Expo in Las Vegas, where I learn about the latest trends, technologies, and best practices. Additionally, I am part of a photobooth marketing mentor group that provides me with ongoing coaching and training. This commitment to professional development ensures that my clients always receive the most innovative and high-quality experiences.
One of the problems we solve for our clients is the need for a fun, memorable activity that keeps guests entertained and engaged. In a world where people love sharing moments on social media, our photobooth experiences provide instant gratification with on-the-spot photo sharing, boosting event visibility and guest enjoyment. We also solve logistical concerns by offering a seamless, hassle-free setup and breakdown, allowing our clients to focus on enjoying their event without worrying about the details.
I’m most proud of the impact we’ve had on our clients’ events. Seeing people laugh, connect, and create memories with our photobooths is incredibly rewarding. It’s more than just taking pictures; it’s about creating moments that people cherish.
For potential clients and followers, I want you to know that Snappin It Up Photobooths isn’t just about photos – it’s about experiences. Our brand is built on fun, creativity, and professionalism. That’s the Snappin It Up difference – memorable experiences, exceptional service, and a passion for capturing life’s best moments.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson I had to unlearn was my level of independence. I always prided myself on being self-sufficient and believed that if I wanted something done right, I had to do it myself. Whether it was in my career or personal life, I was convinced that relying on others was a risk I couldn’t afford to take.
However, as my responsibilities grew—especially in leadership roles and entrepreneurship—I quickly realized that trying to do everything on my own was not only exhausting but also limiting my potential. I was spreading myself too thin and missing out on the valuable input and skills others could bring to the table.
I had to learn the importance of delegation and trusting others to take on responsibilities. It wasn’t an easy shift because it meant letting go of control and being vulnerable enough to admit that I couldn’t do it all. But once I embraced it, I saw how empowering others also empowered me. It allowed me to focus on what I do best while giving others the opportunity to grow and contribute.
This lesson transformed how I lead and collaborate, teaching me that strength isn’t just about independence but also about knowing when to lean on others.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I had to make a pivotal decision to leave a position where I felt undervalued and unappreciated. It was a difficult choice because I had invested so much time and energy into the role, but I realized it was also taking away from other passions that truly mattered to me—like growing my business, Snappin It Up Photobooths, and pursuing my career in real estate.
Surprise—I’m a realtor, too! I am a realtor with Slate Realty located in Sumter, SC, providing real estate services throughout South Carolina. Transitioning from my previous role allowed me the time and space to revamp Snappin It Up Photobooths, adjust my target audience, and fully introduce myself as a realtor.
This pivot wasn’t just about leaving a job; it was about choosing to invest in myself and my passions. It taught me the importance of recognizing when a situation is no longer serving my growth and having the courage to make a change. Since then, I’ve been able to pursue my entrepreneurial dreams while helping people find their perfect homes—combining my love for creativity, connection, and community.
