We recently connected with Sania Khan and have shared our conversation below.
Sania, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, let’s start with trends – what are some of the largest or more impactful trends you are seeing in the industry?
The staffing industry is experiencing a significant shift toward flexible, on-demand workforce solutions, driven by the adoption of AI and automation. Businesses are moving away from large, permanent teams and embracing agile staffing models to address fluctuating needs and gaps where automation falls short. For instance, during a large hospitality event, a client’s AI-powered reservation system went offline, leaving their team overwhelmed. Within hours, an on-demand staffing platform provided pre-vetted workers who ensured smooth operations, highlighting the critical role of adaptable human talent. This trend offers opportunities for scalability, cost efficiency, and synergy with technology, but it also raises concerns about worker protections, quality assurance, and long-term workforce development. Balancing flexibility with fairness is essential as businesses navigate this transformation.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a tech entrepreneur and co-founder of AnyShift, a company that’s transforming the way businesses manage their workforce. My journey into this industry started with a passion for creating solutions that bridge the gap between evolving business needs and the flexibility workers seek. With experience across Europe and the U.S., I noticed a growing demand for on-demand staffing, particularly as automation and AI systems began reshaping traditional employment models. This realization inspired me to help companies stay agile by offering innovative staffing solutions.
At AnyShift, we provide businesses with access to a robust platform that connects them to pre-vetted, ready-to-work talent for flexible, short-term assignments. Whether it’s warehouses needing extra hands during peak seasons or the hospitality industry managing large-scale events, we solve the critical problem of last-minute staffing shortages. What sets us apart is our focus on combining technology with personalized service; we ensure a supervisor is on-site for every shift to guarantee operations run smoothly.
I’m most proud of the impact we’ve had on both businesses and workers. Companies have shared how we’ve saved their operations during high-demand periods, and workers have told us how AnyShift has helped them achieve better work-life balance. For me, it’s about creating a win-win: helping businesses thrive while empowering workers with flexible opportunities.
For potential clients and partners, I’d like them to know that AnyShift isn’t just a staffing solution—it’s a partner in navigating the complexities of today’s workforce. Our goal is to help businesses adapt, scale, and succeed with ease, while building a future where flexible work is an integral part of thriving industries.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Yes, my side hustle grew into my full-time career. It all began while I was managing HR and overseeing 250 employees at our family business. In that role, I saw firsthand the challenges of managing staffing needs, especially during peak times or when unexpected vacancies arose. It was clear that traditional staffing methods were too slow and rigid to meet the demands of a fast-paced business environment.
Inspired by this challenge, I started experimenting with ways to streamline the hiring process and connect businesses with skilled, temporary workers quickly. What began as a side project became more significant when a friend in the event industry reached out for help with last-minute staffing. Using a basic version of what would become AnyShift, I was able to mobilize a team within hours, ensuring their event was a success. That moment proved that this idea had the potential to fill a critical gap in the market.
Scaling AnyShift was a journey marked by key milestones. The first was securing a long-term client in the hospitality industry, which gave us the confidence and resources to grow. Then, we developed and launched our app, making it easy for businesses to find and book pre-vetted talent. A major breakthrough came when we partnered with a large Houston venue, demonstrating that our model could handle high-volume demand.
Today, AnyShift supports industries like hospitality, warehouses, and events, with a network of thousands of workers and a reputation for reliability. What started as a side hustle while managing my family business has grown into a thriving platform that empowers businesses to stay agile and provides workers with flexible opportunities. It’s been an incredible journey, built on a deep understanding of workforce challenges and a commitment to innovation.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
The story of how AnyShift came to be is deeply tied to a major pivot in my career and life. I started my professional journey studying law and later working at a law firm in London. I enjoyed the structure and intellectual challenges of the legal field, but during the COVID-19 pandemic, life took an unexpected turn. Like many others, I found myself reevaluating priorities and opportunities when the world suddenly slowed down.
In 2020, I moved to Belgium to be a part of my growing family business during the pandemic. I began working at our family business, managing HR and overseeing a workforce of 250 employees. This was a pivotal experience—it showed me the complexities of managing staffing needs, especially during unpredictable times.
That’s where the idea for AnyShift was born. Initially, it was a side project, designed to connect businesses with pre-vetted, on-demand workers to fill gaps quickly and reliably. The concept took off, and as it grew, I decided to commit to it fully. Eventually, this journey brought me to the U.S., where the demand for flexible workforce solutions was skyrocketing, especially in cities like Houston.
Pivoting from law to entrepreneurship wasn’t something I had planned, but each step—from my legal training to managing our family business—helped shape the skills and perspective I bring to AnyShift today. This pivot not only redefined my career but also taught me the importance of adaptability and the incredible opportunities that can emerge from life’s unexpected changes.
