We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sangwoo Hahn a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sangwoo, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What was one of the most important lessons you learned in school? Why did that lesson stick with you?
As a graphic design major in art college, I never imagined that a coding class would be related to my field. However, when I started applying coding to design, it was like discovering a whole new world of possibilities. I learned that coding can bring ideas to life and create interactive works that involve others. It also helped me develop a more logical and systematic way of thinking, which has been invaluable in my career.
One of the most important lessons I learned from this experience is the importance of being open-minded and trying new things, even if they don’t seem to be directly related to your interests or field of study. Unexpected experiences can lead to new discoveries and opportunities that can enrich your life and career.
Moreover, learning to code also improved my communication with developers and allowed me to see things from their perspective. This has helped me in my personal and professional life by broadening my horizons and expanding my skill set. I believe that this lesson is crucial for anyone who wants to grow and develop in their career, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to have learned it.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am currently working as a UX/UI designer in the marketing team of an online education company. My main focus is designing web pages, creating marketing campaigns, and illustrating mascots. With my strong skills in UX/UI, branding, and motion graphics, I am well-suited for the fast-paced and varied projects that come with working in marketing.
In addition, I have a passion for coding and have been collaborating with a programmer for several years on a game development project. My strengths in UX/UI, illustration, and motion graphics have been valuable assets to the project, as they are essential elements in game development.
Overall, I am excited to continue growing and expanding my skill set in the design industry, as well as exploring new opportunities for collaboration and innovation.
Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
I find NFTs fascinating because they offer a solution to the challenge of establishing ownership in the infinite reproducibility of digital assets. However, I also recognize that there are some concerns surrounding the technology. For instance, while you can assign a token to a specific digital asset, there’s no way to ensure that the assigned token represents the true original. Additionally, even after a token is assigned, the digital asset remains susceptible to replication. It’s just a matter of whether the replicated version has a token assigned to it or not.
Despite these concerns, I believe that the idea of assigning tokens to specific files has tremendous potential for development. With further advancements, this technology could revolutionize the way we view and exchange digital assets. As long as we are aware of the potential pitfalls and continue to develop the technology with those considerations in mind, I think NFTs have a bright future ahead.

Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
As I mentioned earlier, incorporating coding into the design is something that is very important to me. Coding ultimately requires a visual element in order for users to interact with it, and that is something that a designer should be responsible for. If one person could do both, there would certainly be a heightened level of synergy between the two. Although I started learning coding relatively late and am still in the process of learning, I often wonder what could have been different if I had learned it earlier, and how it could have impacted my work.
