Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sanei W. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sanei, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Any thoughts about whether to ask friends and family to support your business. What’s okay in your view?
I believe that asking friends and family to support your business is a key component when you’re first starting out, but I do think there’s a line that most people close to you seem to cross. From what I’ve seen, some people expect discounts or free services. It’s unfair and puts business owners in an awkward situation because 9/10 that friend or family member wouldn’t ask anyone else for a discount; they would respect their business and pay them their stated price. But some people fail to realize that support can come in more ways than one, and doesn’t have to be financial. It can start with just support on social media, or word of mouth. Regardless, I am grateful to have such a support system with loving friends and family who respect me! I think its super important to have people you can lean on, especially as a small business owner.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Sanei, and I am a self taught 21 year old makeup artist currently located in Ellenwood GA. Born and raised in NYC, I found my passion for doing makeup during my high school years. I specialize in soft glams and special events. Most importantly, I am a small business owner dedicated to growing as a makeup artist. I am most proud of my resilience. I have been working at my dream of being a successful makeup artist for years now, and while my business is still not where I’d like it to be, I’m never giving up on my passions! I think what sets me apart from others is that I don’t rush through a clients face, I take my time in making sure its perfect, so for someone who might squeeze in 8 people and be more inclined to rush, I set a comfortable daily client number for myself to make sure clients leave satisfied!
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Definitely friends, family, and the power of social media. Once someone shares your work and boasts about it, other people start to ask questions and then its a never ending cycle if you’re fortunate enough! Because of these three factors, people are aware of my talents.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I keep in touch with clients mostly through social media! I try to engage with them from time to time so they dont forget about me, make sure to post client pics/videos, and I have a client loyalty program in the works.
