We recently connected with Sandy Sea and have shared our conversation below.
Sandy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I believe that hard work makes a person successful. When I first decided I wanted to be a mermaid, I started working on my breath hold and different tricks to audition to be a mermaid at Ripleys aquarium in Myrtle Beach. When I got the role I was ecstatic. However, it was not long until I got laid off due to the Covid 19 pandemic. Rather than accept defeat, I saved up to buy my own tail and formed my own LLC. This was the start of my own mermaid business.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started out scuba diving and participating in local theatre shows for fun. When I saw the hiring add at Ripleys for a professional mermaid, I realized this was what I had always wanted. A chance to combine my two favorite things.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I always make sure I put 100% into my performances. I practice for each one and show up in a top quality silicone tail and waterproof makeup.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Client referrals.
