Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sandra Wright, PhD. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sandra, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
Being my own boss is awesome. I would not have it any other way. Besides, I don’t know if I could work for anyone again.
I consider myself a serial entrepreneur. However, I have more than one business. Recently, I just started a non-profit because I had been giving freely of my own funds to assist young ladies with book scholarships and hosting summer workshops for youth.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Well, I got into business by accident. I was actually fired from a job as Director of Education and Interim Human Resources Director for telling the truth. Little did I know that the person that had applied for this job and had gotten the job lied profusely on his application. I found out later that he was handpicked by the CEO because he was a friend. After so many complaints from his employees, I decided to go back and review his resume and application. I found out that he never graduated from college, and that the person that he said was his supervisor was actually a former roommate. So, go figure!
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of getting new clients for me has been through word of mouth referrals. Periodically, I find new clients through other means via my online presence.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
There are so many books that have impacted me and my entrepreneurial journey. The first book is called: Nine Minutes on Monday, next, Crucial Conversations; Developing the Leader within you; Fierce Conversations
