We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sandra Williams a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sandra, thanks for joining us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
The legacy I am hoping to build and the one I am actively building for my adult children and grandchildren; is one that exemplifies living with a purpose. My legacy will demonstrate I am goal driven with a lot of tenacity and perserverance. I strategically execute steps that will help me to reach my goals and I always have a plan a, b, c and sometimes d if needed.
I am notoriously known for the ability to creatively plan and strategize.
I want to remembered for not only methodically planning a future that will sustain not only myself but my adult children and grandchildren. I want to be remembered for my willingness to help others reach their goals and dreams.
I believe there are endless possibilities and to always believe in yourself and your abilities. Ex: If you are working for someone or a company and there is no opportunity for you to grow then I believe you should utilize your personal strengths and create your own path in life that will allow you to reach your goals.
My legacy includes my deep Faith and the ambition I have to achieve my dreams and desires.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into this particular business when my father became ill with a progressive and terminal disease. I wanted to help him be comfortable. With that being said..I was born on the Island of Barbados and through my maternal descent I am also Antiguan as well as a Naturalized United States Citizen. The Caribbean has so many natural plants, teas and herbs that I knew while growing up.
With this heritage I went back to the region to search for “Bush Teas” that are very much customary to West Indians. I started with six teas and my father enjoyed them immensely as he too remembered his up-brining while he consumed the teas and herbs. From then others began to ask me about some of the teas I had and asked about the history and purpose of the plants. Fast forward I decided to begin a business and it has grown to the point that we are now not only on line but we about to open our first store in Smyrna, DE.
Caribbean Bush Tea is the name of the company and we sell Sea Moss, Teas, Herbs, Spices, Body Butters, Body Oils and more. All of these products are derivatives of plants from the land and or the sea. We offer teas and dried herbs sourced from around the world.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Consistency producing and presenting a good product has been the strategy for growing my clientele. Providing detailed information about the product and additional research reference materials to customers has also been helpful to clients. Customers like to have conversations about the product and our team at Caribbean Bush Team does not mind taking the time to speak with each customer if they request that service.
Any advice for managing a team?
The advice I have for maintaining high moral for this company; is to sincerely listen to your team and always engage them and keep them part of the process. This is a family business and each member has a strength that allows them the opportunity to shine. We also offer services such as product label design, logo design, event and business signage designs. These additional services administered by CaribbeanBush Tea provides the conduit for the team to exemplify their many natural and professional talents.
