We recently connected with Sandra Pearce Rdn, Cd and have shared our conversation below.
Sandra , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
Specializing in women’s health and fertility nutrition wasn’t something I had originally planned. It’s more of what has grown out of a lifetime of experiences.
Of triumph and trial, of learning to cut through the noise of the world and see the uniqueness in each person and the desire to help others see that uniqueness in themselves. Breaking the perceived “rules” when it comes to health and nutrition.
Pivoting my career to specialize in women’s health and nutrition for fertility came from recognizing the amount of repetition in chronic diseases and really wanted to get to the root cause. The more I learned about epigenetics, the more I realized not enough focus is being put on early life nutrition and it has become part of my mission to give every person the opportunity to have a lasting generational impact.
You see, epigenetics shows us that the choices we make today, such as the foods we eat, toxins we consume and stress we partake in, helps shape not only our children, but our children’s children.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
HI! I’m Sandra.
A little about me in case you haven’t met me or heard me speak. I’m a mother to an amazing teenager, Sister (middle children are the best), daughter, Wanna-Be homesteader (a girl can dream), food enthusiast and Registered Dietitian.
Many moons ago, as a business owner, single mother and driven woman, I knew it was time for a change. I put myself through 6 more years of school, slept little, gave hugs and kisses every chance I got and found my current direction in life, to help others better understand and find freedom with the power of food. Something so simple yet so complex in a world overflowing with information.
This is where I first learned about Epigenetics and how what we eat ultimately impacts, not just us, but our kids and grandkids too!!
I’ve founded Rooted Nutrition as a way to embrace my love of nutrition with my faith and create a safe place for people to be seen as a whole person. I find that often faith plays a big role in individuals overall health and how they make decisions for themselves and their families.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
If I could take a trip back in time, I believe I’d end up on the same path. Being a dietitian is not an easy road. For anyone who is one, you know what I mean. It’s a demanding educational process. It’s a lot of time and money to get pushed into a healthcare system that doesn’t often truly value preventative medicine in the way of nutrition.
All that said, I feel it holds so much value and I’ve personally felt so blessed to be able to feel my career truly has a lasting impact on others.

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Life. I’d say life experiences and learning from them has helped me to be a better provider. If I’d have gone through school earlier and not had the experiences I have had, worked in multiple different environments around so many people, I don’t believe I’d counsel others or be able to relate to and get as creative as I do today with finding solutions.
