We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sandra Martins a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sandra, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
One of the most meaningful projects I’ve worked on so far is the book series I both wrote and illustrated, The Adventures of Sasha & Flint. As a mother and children’s book illustrator, I have the unique privilege of bringing to life scenes that inspire me. My daughter is the heart of my creative inspiration, and as a passionate storyteller, I wanted to craft little tales based on her adventures and personal anecdotes. While these stories are rooted in her experiences, I also aimed to make them relatable for all children. The underlying theme I wanted to convey was one of friendship, so I introduced Flint, a fox (my favorite animal!), who accompanies Sasha on each of her journeys.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’ve been an author and illustrator since 2017, and I live in the North of Luxembourg with my husband and daughter, who is my greatest source of inspiration. After completing my studies in animation, I chose to focus on creating stories and illustrating them under the pseudonym Four Seasons Fox.
In my world, you’ll find everything cute—animals, children, and nature,.
On my Etsy and on conventions you will find my books, prints, pins, and all sort of merchandise
My latest book, Sasha and Flint, Save the Queen, is the third book of my series “Sasha and Flint” and will be available on Luxembourguish bookstores since end of March, published by Schortgen Editions, and it’s offered in French, Luxembourgish, and English.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
What I find most rewarding as a full-time artist, aside from being immersed in a field where beauty constantly surrounds me, is the freedom it provides. I have the privilege of setting my own schedule, which allows me to always be there for my daughter and husband whenever they need me.
Of course, like any path, there are challenges, but with time, I’ve come to realize that the moments spent with loved ones hold far more value than money ever could. The ability to balance my creative work with precious time with my family is something I deeply cherish.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I moved to Luxembourg when I was 18, and at first, it was incredibly challenging to continue my education due to the language barrier. So, I decided to start working instead. I took on all sorts of jobs—waitressing, cashiering, and even trained as a hairdresser—while simultaneously learning the language.
The turning point came when I was 27, nearly 10 years after I arrived. I realized it was time to finally pursue what I truly loved in a creative field. So, I enrolled in an animation degree, where I not only gained valuable skills but also discovered something important about myself: I can learn anything I set my mind to.
After completing my degree, I made the decision not to pursue a career in animation. Instead, I chose to become an illustrator and bring my stories to life. It was the best decision I could have made. With the support of my husband and family, I’ve never been happier.
