We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sandra Gonzalez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Sandra thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
My husband’s father knew a friend with a small herb store. Seeing its high demand for dried herbs, my husband Jose, had the idea to package and distribute them to drug stores, pharmacies, and grocery stores. He started doing so himself, and the business gradually grew with positive responses from consumers. The main challenge at the time was persuading stores to carry the brand, being a new concept.
My husband had this vision that the brand would be founded on one simple idea – to respect and to share the time-honored tradition of using herbs as botanical remedies to promote overall wellbeing. This is the vision the team is still carrying on and what made Tadin thrive.
For over 40 years now, our mission has been to serve our comunidad by offering them trusted, high quality, approachably priced herbal teas.
We are proud to be a family, minority-owned business with all of our production in the USA in our Los Angeles facility.
Tadin, as probably the first bilingual tea in Los Angeles, and now #1 Hispanic tea brand in America*, is now a staple in our community’s families. It is always amazing to hear their stories around Tadin and how it became a multi-generational national brand. We are very much looking forward to keep on serving this generation and the next ones to come!
Sandra, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Tadin Herb & Tea Co was founded in 1982 on one simple idea – to respect and to share the time-honored tradition of using herbs as botanical remedies to promote overall wellbeing.
As the Vice President, I am very proud to have been working alongside my husband and our talented team for 24 years. We all work very hard to keep the business thriving, and this is very humbling to see that after 40 years, Tadin is a trusted staple brand in the Hispanic community.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
I have a background in accounting and finance. We met through a company I was working for who represented Tadin. We started dating, got married and the rest is history. We decided it was time for me to join Tadin back in 2000 and oversee the Finance department. I have been working for the company for 24 years now, and eventually I became the Vice President.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
It all started with my husband, who found a gap in the herb industry.
Embracing our Latino roots and our heritage by producing premium quality, traditionally-rooted herbal teas for all generations is at the very core of what we do. All our efforts gravitate towards staying true and authentic, respect our traditions, work with incredible people and value the importance of family.
These values must resonate with our consumers because Tadin is a trusted staple in our community’s families.
