We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sandi Morales. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sandi below.
Alright, Sandi thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to start by getting your thoughts on what you are seeing as some the biggest trends emerging in your industry.
One of the most significant trends I have observed in the nail industry recently is the increasing number of women delving into their creative potential to develop distinctive and original nail designs. This shift reflects a broader movement towards personalized and innovative approaches within the field, as more artists seek to express their individuality through elaborate and custom-crafted nail art.
I have clients who arrive with the intention of incorporating elements from their preferred abstract artists into their nail designs or drawing inspiration from their daily experiences. As a nail artist, we now see this kind of creative collaboration become increasingly common.
Clients are no longer just looking for classic manicures; they want their nails to serve as a canvas for their individuality. This shift, I believe, underscores a broader trend of women exploring and showcasing their creative capacities in ways that were not as prevalent in the past.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a licensed nail technician in California and also develop and conduct training programs for aspiring nail artists through a range of specialized courses.
My journey in the nail industry began in late 2018 as a means to supplement my income while attending college. It soon became clear that my passion for this field was profound, prompting me to pursue it full-time. I take great pleasure in meeting new clients, establishing strong relationships with them, and creating unique nail art that enhances their confidence.
When I first entered the field, a career in nails was not as widely accepted or recognized as it is today. Many doubted my ability to build a successful and sustainable career in the beauty industry. Through persistence and dedication, I have successfully built a rewarding and successful career
The skepticism I faced from those around me when I chose to leave my academic studies to focus on nails full-time motivated me to create my own training courses. My goal is to provide support and guidance to individuals navigating their own careers in the nail industry..

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been a combination of factors. Building strong, genuine relationships with clients has been crucial; when clients feel valued and well cared for, they are more likely to refer others and remain loyal. Being authentic and true to myself in all interactions has also played a significant role. By presenting my true personality and professional values, I’ve been able to establish a strong, trustworthy brand that resonates with clients and encourages word-of-mouth referrals.
Additionally, maintaining an active and engaging presence on social media has allowed me to showcase my work and connect with a wider audience, further increasing my visibility. Maintaining a professional image on my platforms attracts my ideal high value clients.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Certainly. Reflecting on my creative journey, there are several resources I wish I had discovered earlier. First and foremost, finding a mentor who specializes in teaching courses would have been immensely beneficial. A mentor with experience in both the practical and educational aspects of the nail industry could have provided valuable guidance and accelerated my learning process.
Additionally, establishing a network of other nail professionals early on would have been advantageous. Having access to a community of peers to consult and exchange insights with could have offered support, expanded my knowledge base, and helped me navigate challenges more effectively.
Furthermore, participating in beauty events and industry workshops would have been a great way to stay abreast of the latest trends and techniques while connecting with industry leaders and influencers. These events often provide inspiration and practical tips that are invaluable for professional growth.
Lastly, leveraging online tutorials and educational platforms could have significantly enhanced my skills. The vast array of resources available online offers opportunities to learn new techniques and refine existing ones at one’s own pace, which is a crucial component for continuous improvement in a rapidly evolving field like nail artistry.
