Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Samuel Nkrumah. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Samuel, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I realized I wanted to pursue a creative journey probably way back in my junior year of high school. I loved to draw and create sci-fi settings straight from my imagination. However, I felt like I could elevate my craft in a new art form but didn’t know how. One day, a friend who often saw me draw abstract and cool sci-fi pieces told me, “I think I know something you would like to do.” Many of my friends knew me as a nerdy guy who loved computers and all their complexity. So, he showed me a link to Blender, a 3D modeling and VFX software. Immediately, I knew this would be something I could excel at.
That night, I spent hours looking at tutorials and works from the 3D art community, realizing that I could pursue a creative job if I put my ideas out there. Since then, I have been creating 3D art, making various scenes, objects, and environments. Now, I am a freelance artist who has worked with a bunch of cool people and has gladly been able to express my creativity and strive toward my goals.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Samuel Nkrumah, and I am a 3D artist. Currently, I am a computer science student, and I love creating things in Blender. While I have been using Blender for a while, I also draw traditionally and digitally using Photoshop and Illustrator. My passion for 3D art stems from my love of drawing and storytelling, combined with my skills in computers, which I believe would enhance my creativity in 3D.
I have been freelancing for about four years, and during this time, I have had the opportunity to showcase my imagination through projects like short films, album covers, and most notably, concert visuals for Bebe Rexha. My 3D style is energetic and colorful, and although I am still learning new techniques, I have helped many people bring their ideas to life. My best skill in 3D art is creating sci-fi art, where I can take real-world references and twist them into cool, convincing sci-fi environments and technology.
Growing up, I enjoyed watching a lot of science fiction shows and movies, which greatly inspired my designs. I am proud of my ability to imagine otherworldly places and recreate them in my art. Recently, I have been focusing on music-related 3D art, such as concert visuals and album covers. I feel like I am finding a style I enjoy because there is a unique mood that needs to be captured when creating art that complements music. This is another aspect of my work that I take pride in and hope to develop further in my art career.
If anyone is interested in working with me, I can confidently say that I am a person of detail and creativity. I take my time when creating, and bringing new ideas to existing ones, and once I get the ball rolling, the result will be awesome.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Yes, I have a significant goal: to create an animated show or movie. I want this project to be the best work I can produce and to have a wide reach across the world. The show will be based on the times my sister and I used to play with our toys, creating crazy storylines, lore, and characters. Many of us remember playing with our toys growing up, whether alone, with a friend, or with a sibling, and how deeply invested we became in the worlds we created.
With the worlds and characters my sister and I developed, along with some cohesive worldbuilding and story writing, I believe we can create a marvelous story of adventure. I have been practicing all aspects of 3D art and storymaking to build the foundation for a pilot or concept video. Although I have a long way to go to make this dream a reality, I believe that with time and effort, it will come to fruition and be amazing.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is seeing others inspired to create something after seeing my work. Before I even started 3D art, I used to watch breakdowns of how animators in big studios made each 3D model, rigged, and animated them, as well as how giant teams came together to craft the amazing movies and shows I loved. I used that as fuel to get up and do something creative.
Now that I have created some awesome works and told cool stories with my animations, I still have fuel in my creative tank because I can see the heights I can reach. When I show people my art or hear that someone has seen my Instagram or portfolio, I feel accomplished. It means that the time and effort I put into my pieces can inspire someone else to pursue their creativity in some capacity.
