We recently connected with Samuel Jenkins and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Samuel, thanks for joining us today. Alright – so having the idea is one thing, but going from idea to execution is where countless people drop the ball. Can you talk to us about your journey from idea to execution?
It all started my sophomore year at Hahnville High School in Boutte, Louisiana. I attended an elective class called TV Productions, and this class taught me the art of dialogue and storytelling. I really enjoyed being behind the camera capturing all the stunning angles and all the clips we needed to put together a well organized short film. The editing process wasn’t my favorite part at the time, but I payed close attention to my instructor as he was teaching us how to put together a well organized video. Fast forward to my senior year, I decided to take the advanced course of the TV productions. I was so excited to further my learning of the skill. Within two weeks of my senior year, I got some unexpected news that I was moving to Houston,Texas. The new school I was attending didn’t have any programs that offered TV productions, and I was extremely disappointed. As the year went on, I continued to create my own projects to better my craft. I was shooting my own short films, music videos, and mini video montages. One day during the school year, an opportunity came up that changed everything for me. I was currently taking a communications class that had a project to make a PSA video. The topic I chose was a video that would bring awareness to why it is unsafe to text while driving. This was the opportunity for me to show everything I’ve learned and practiced. My teacher and the class really loved the video on the presentation day. The video did so well, my teacher played the video in a faculty meeting and I was also offered the opportunity to get paid to make senior videos for the schools senior dvd. At that moment, I knew I could start turning my passion into a profit. Later on after high school, I bought my first professional camera. By making that investment, I gained more passion for photography, and it allowed me to use what I’ve learned to also tell stories with photos. I wanted to incorporate both photography and videography into my skill set to enhance my craft. These experiences allowed me to now launch what I do as a business. There is so much thought that goes into providing the best art for my clients, which is why I love capturing their memories Behind the Lenz!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am Samuel Jenkins a Houston-based Photographer/ Videographer who loves creating memories that will last a lifetime. It has always been a passion of mine to make others happy and feel confident seeing themselves the way I see them through my lens. Photography has allowed me to meet some amazing people and build lifelong relationships with clients that expand pass the photoshoot. Behind the Lenz Media primarily focuses on portraiture; lifestyle, graduations, and weddings (just to name a few),and I also love doing drone photography and videography. Seeing the world from the sky is an alluring experience the everyday person doesn’t usually see. And for me to share that view with others, is an exhilarating feeling.
Born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana which is such a culturally diverse and vibrant city, has allowed me to become super creative in my own unique way when it comes to my art. From the hospitality I display with all my clients, down to the venues I or they choose; it portrays my mellow – yet pellucid style. Fulfilling their needs and adding my own distinctive taste, all ties back to the city that made me the photographer/artist I am today.

What do you find most rewarding about being creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect is turning a simple vision into a vast reality. Seeing the expressions on my clients’ and associates’ faces are the highlight of my work. The joy that my art gives them is an exuberant feeling and I love being the creator of someone else’s lifelong memories.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Although I feel there are many sources that have been working in my favor, social media and networking are the most beneficial for me. We reside in a new era that allows us to promote our businesses with a click of a button, and that makes my art more accessible to everyone. Networking has been a reliable tool for entrepreneurs for decades and its still reliable now. The amount of clients I receive from participating in community events and meeting new people have boost my clientele immensely.
