We were lucky to catch up with Samuel Adrian Torres recently and have shared our conversation below.
Samuel Adrian, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about how you’ve thought about whether to sign with an agent or manager?
I feel like this is a good place to start. Many people ask me questions relating to this topic. A topic that every creative gets their self into and I’m happy to share what I’ve learned :) I can talk about this for hours and have so much to say because I came into acting a little later than most and I came in BLIND SIDED. I had to do a lot of research and had many conversations from the projects I’ve worked on.
I’m going to start off by saying this…from the people I’ve talked to in the industry I’ve learned that as long as your agent supports you and sends you things to audition for then you’re okay. I went to a master class from the top casting director in Utah (Jeff Jhonson) and he said that it doesn’t really matter what agency your apart of because him as a casting director keeps track of those who submit and has a file of people that catch his eye for later projects and he mentioned that the agencies get most of all of the same castings anyways and you just need someone that supports you and gets you the auditions. I wanted to say that first because I feel like creatives and also myself always have those doubts with their agents..
“Did I make the right decision ?” “ Do I need to find a better agent?”
I currently have 3 agents , one local and the rest out of state. When I started I was 15 and I just finished filming a reality tv show and I wanted to start this passion of acting of mine so I talked to my friend that did the show with me and they gave me all the info to my first agency, I submitted, and It has been amazing ever since, i’m very grateful.
I would say that if you’re serious about acting and wanna do it full-time then you need to get an agent or manager. Also depending on what path you wanna take in terms of wanting to pursue acting, dancing, choreographer, model, photographer, etc.. they all take a different approach to submitting to the agency right for you and your career path. With that being said DO YOUR RESEARCH! Who are your inspirations ? What agencies are they a part of ? NAMES!!! Know who you want to submit for and look at their roster, Dm them and ask if they like their agency etc…oh and remember to do all of this with an open heart and be genuine :)
I still can go on and on about this topic and couldn’t fully dive in but my DM’s are always open and you can message me @_samueladrian_ on instagram :)
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I got into all of this by doing the WORK , I built myself from the ground up and I will gladly share how it went for me! I did things like getting an agent, building up my resume, and showing up to things that are aligned with my career path etc… But I’m going to be completely honest with you, what really got me the big opportunities and jobs was my spirituality, law of manifestation, and who I am as a person. Who you are as a person will be reflected into your art. People who are the most talented are also talented at being a human. The Universe & God will test you to make sure that you are ready/really want whatever that is what you want. It took a lot of work emotionally, mentally, and spiritually to make sure that I wanted this. Also, how am I gonna go into a career of acting where I have to bring out those emotions if I don’t even know my own ?
What sets me apart is incorporating my spirituality into my work! I make sure that I’m ok mentally and spiritually before I start “Grinding/Working” so that when I’m on set , I’m healthy and I’m able to provide people with good energy to be around. NOBODY WANTS TO BE AROUND NEGATIVE ENERGY. People get fired just by being a hassle to work with, even if they are the most talented in the room. I’ve been hired to work with the same people because they know that I work hard and I’m a good person so they hire me again.
I’m most proud of my hard work paying off and not even in a work sense but the hard work I put into my spiritual health. I’m proud of being alive today and doing the things I’ve always wanted to do as a kid and healing my inner child as I go. Young sam is so happy that I filmed a movie with his favorite childhood stars and that feeling keeps me going and really shows that
1. The law of manifestation works 2. Being a good human goes along way 3. HARD WORK PAYS OFF
I want everyone to know that your mental, spiritual, and emotional health is far more important than booking that job. You can die tomorrow and you could have lived your last days in stress and in a lack mentality. Learn to love your life as is and the universe and god will give you all that you desire.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I had to shift my energy when it came to what I really wanted. I’ve been dancing since I was 11 and I wanted to just dance but once I started acting I loved it more so I had to put in more of my energy in acting. I got sad because I do love dancing but I realized that that dance will forever be a part of me
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I feel like non-creatives don’t realize that art is very personal and most of the time artistry can’t be taught, it comes from that individual person. With that being said.. school/college isn’t necessary for a creative career and a lot of the times creatives get judged or looked down upon for not going to school.
