We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful band Samsara. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Samsara below.
Alright, Samsara thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you recount a story of an unexpected problem you’ve faced along the way?
We started as a band in 2018, while all still in NY and in High School. At that time it was easy for us to always get together to rehearse, make music, and just jam. We were very busy and active with our music and making new music. Now in 2022, (actually started in 2021 when three of us left for all college) but now in 2022 all of of us attend college and are no longer local.
It has been a huge challenge for us in our creative process. We no longer have access to each other the way we have in the past. It has made our progress slower in some ways..
But we have found ways to work around this challenge and do our best to stay connected and still create.
We use social media and send demos to each other of our ideas, musically, We keep each other updated and when we finally can get together face to face, it is as if we have not had any time apart.
We just get together, and immediately, and just start together as if there was no time apart.
For instance, while we have not seen each other, we are ready and prepared, and we have some songs on the back burner we plan on putting together in the studio when we are all home for the winter break.
Samsara, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi… we are SAMSARA. we are just a bunch of college kids, local New Yorkers from Queens and Long Island:
We are: Dylan Trif, (Lead Vocals), Charlie LoMonaco, (Guitar/ Background Vocals), John Devito, (Bass), Ben Bustamante, (Drums/ Background Vocals), and Brendan Sandhovel, (Rhythm Guitar).
We get our influence from several styles including grunge, funk, metal, and alternative. We have been described as “alt sound” that weaves grunge with today’s modern rock. We have received praise from professionals within the music community. In September of 2021, we came in 2nd place at the Tarrytown Music Hall’s “Rock The Hall”. Our music has received airplay on SiriusXM’s Channel 21 , as well as different college radio broadcasts and local radio stations. SAMSARA has played some of the most notorious rock venues in the tristate area, a handful of regional music festivals and street fairs, and have worked with seasoned professionals in the music industry..
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Understanding that music is just as much a valid form of a way to make a living. Music is incredibly undervalued in today’s society and people see its value. A lot of people do not see it as a valid way to make a living, they see it as a waste of time.
Music and the arts in a more broader sense is important to society as a hold. What is a society without art? Art is a way for people to express themselves and needed for people to consume it.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being creative?
Being able to express ourselves through our music and seeing people react to it both negatively and positively.
