We recently connected with Sammy Sossa and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Sammy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
Too Self Made my very first solo album was released through Modern Oddity Records on March 11,2022. This album was cultivated and inspired by my own real life experiences over the years. I didn’t want to just assemble songs that were made and form a track-list. It was important that I made many songs say with the album for months to a max of three years. I had to grow in my artistry, listen to my own experiences through real time, I was honest on many tracks but they were missing something.
Moreover mane, I managed to make three different albums and by the third one I was content however, I lost my cellular device and had to start from scratch with new songs, new material , new everything. As I’ve matured through my career I’ve become a firm believer that everything is connected within the universe. Basically as I was working on my album I was going to school for film production and content development so I basically put my album to a hold due to my focus being elsewhere.
Long story short, I got banned from my university for a year and that made me solemnly focus on my album and motivated me to get it out to my listeners. At this point I had a narrow vision and concisely knew where I would take my album to. The fourth attempt had to have no flaws, no misleading , just great direct great storytelling , motivation, truth, inspiration, the whole nine yards.
My goal was to drop my album in the first quarter of the year but with my dad’s passing on February 26 I didn’t want to drop my album until the end of the year. With that being said I felt through all of the turmoil making “Too Self Made” it built character. I used my own motivation in my album for myself so we released it in March.
This is why Too Self Made my most meaningful project to date. I wanted this album to present it to the world and cement myself with this artistry. The world will catch onto my album and I firmly believe it. It has been performing well and it has not even been 3 full months so I want to thank everyone for their patience and believing in my artistry prior to this release. I pray this album brings a new light to my brand , new heights for myself and team.
Too Self Made to Infinity- SammySossa
Sammy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am known for my stage name SammySossa and founder of the music collective ModernOddity. Within the last two years I have expanded into ModernOddityRecords and ModdoFilms.
I’ve always had a passion for music and have been in the entertainment industry as early as 3 years old entertaining crowds traveling from state to state.
After studying greats in the entertainment industry I wanted to bring my dreams to reality. When I was 15 years old I started recording music two years landed my first proposed music deal. As a 17 year old coming from the hood and poverty of course I wanted to sign although, in the long run it was not going to make sense for me.
What sets my craft apart from others is self explanatory you can hear it my music. Aside from that over the years I receive paragraphs of how I inspire many people older and younger than I am. Some even say it has prevented them from committing suicide.
I’ve always wanted to expand and cover new areas in the entertainment industry I am one who wears many hats. My motive is to inspire but also carve out a wealthy lane for my entire family and my bloodline to come.
My most proud moment was performing in front of thousands and it being well received by the masses.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Great question. 2020 I was presented the opportunity and invited to perform at Grammy Weekend on the red carpet along with other opportunities that weekend. Ever since a small boy mane I’ve always had the dreams of wanting to reach the prestige level of my career and be rewarded for it. It’s almost like being promoted and getting a massive raise.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Fasho many goals and missions and every year I check em off, create new ones and keep it moving.
