Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sammie Mancine. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sammie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
There was indeed a moment in my professional career, that not only altered the trajectory of my career but also transformed my entire approach to healthcare. I had worked as a registered nurse in the hospital setting and I was dedicated to my job, but over time, I grew increasingly disillusioned with the system. It felt like we were simply masking patients’ symptoms with more and more prescriptions, rather than addressing the root causes of their health issues. This pattern left me with a sense of unfulfillment, as I craved to make a more profound impact on people’s lives.
My own personal history played a significant role in this transformation. From a young age, I suffered from chronic migraines. I vividly remember countless trips to the doctor, where the solution always seemed to be a new medication. These medications didn’t make sense for me and the migraines persisted. It was frustrating, and I couldn’t help but wonder if there was a better way to manage my health.
My turning point came when I was introduced to the world of functional and holistic medicine. It was during this period of personal struggle that I sought a naturopathic doctor. What I learned from this experience was nothing short of life-changing. Instead of prescribing another pill, this doctor delved into the root cause of my migraines. We explored my nutrition, lifestyle, and overall well-being. It became clear that my diet was a major contributor to my recurring migraines.
The journey to address these dietary issues was long and required significant effort on my part, but it was worth it. As I made changes to my nutrition and embraced a holistic approach to my own health, my migraines quickly diminished. It was a profound realization that medication alone wasn’t the answer; true healing came from understanding and addressing the underlying causes of health issues.
This pivotal experience inspired me to pursue a career as a holistic nutritionist and functional medicine RN. I realized that I wanted to help others break free from the cycle of symptom masking and empower them to make lasting changes in their health. I wanted to be the bridge between conventional medicine and holistic, preventative care.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Sammie Manine and I’m a holistic nutritionist and functional medicine RN. I work with clients on a one-on-one basis, using functional medicine principles to identify and address the root causes of their health issues while my approach encompasses a holistic perspective that considers the entire body.
In addition to providing personalized nutrition guidelines, my holistic plans include practical lifestyle changes, such as incorporating movement, managing stress, and practicing self-care. These changes are designed to seamlessly integrate into everyday life, making it easier for clients to implement positive changes and experience lasting improvements in their health.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
If I had the opportunity to go back and make different choices in my career path, I would undoubtedly remain within the health and wellness field. My personal journey has been the driving force behind where I am today, and I wouldn’t trade that for anything. However, I do recognize that I would have chosen to move into the functional and holistic space much earlier and expedited my realization of its significance.
My own health journey is the reason I am so passionate about helping others discover the power of holistic well-being and the body’s ability to heal itself when provided with the right tools. I’m truly grateful for the lessons and experiences that have brought me to where I am today, and I’m committed to continuing to help others on their own journeys toward health and wellness.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
I believe that the most valuable factor for succeeding is gaining hands-on experience and continuously learning through real-world interactions with patients. While education, courses, and books provide a strong foundation, they only scratch the surface of the complexities that each individual presents.
The truth is that each person is unique when it comes to their health and wellness. You can do all the training and take all the courses, but it’s only when you start working directly with patients that you truly appreciate the depth of this complexity. Every person’s body, history, lifestyle, and needs are different, and there’s no one-size-fits-all solution.
By actively engaging with patients and applying the knowledge gained from training, you begin to develop a deeper understanding of how to tailor your approach to meet their specific requirements. The more you practice and interact with individuals from various backgrounds and with diverse health concerns, the more you learn. This hands-on experience enables you to adapt and refine your strategies, making you a more effective practitioner over time.
